6 of us booked a sweet with 3 beds in it for july 9 and 10.We drove out from NJ to Ohio for a GNCC race. We called the super 8 garbage motel to confirm our room and to get directons at 10 pm. The confirmation number htat we gave over the phone was no good because they had given our room away!
When we booked the motel the man on the phone said that they don't run the credit cards until you get there so we gave a card with only $100 on it, the room was $150, they ran the card and cancelled the room due to lack of funds!
We tried to explain to the woman that we needed to get directions and to get a room like we originally had booked and all she had to say was that it was all our fault and that she only had 3 rooms left that were $125 each. So since all other hotels were booked we told her to save the 3 rooms and we would be there in 5 minutes.
When we got the the hotel she had given 1 of the rooms away and left us with only 2 rooms for 6 people! Plus she was nasty and rude about the whole situation so we called corporate which gave us no help either. We finally decided to give in and pay the money so that we could go to bed. We were going to sleep 3 in a room and leave the next morning.
The woman wouldn't allow us to sleep 3 in a room and kept telling us that "it's your fault that you don't have a room" with a childish attitude so naturally after 10 hours in a car and this stupid loser telling us we have no room we got angry yelled at her and left!!
We ended up driving around Ohio until 12 at night and ended up staying in a $45 nasty dirty hotel that your feet stuck to the carpet, gross.
Now I am trying to make a complaint against the hotel and super 8 corporate doesnt want to make a report and keeps giving me the run around telling me that it is an independantly owned hotel and they have there own rules so they can't help us. They also denied my request to speak with a manager several times!!
I am desperately trying to seek out some help in making a complaint but they don't and will not make one for me!! I will never stay at another super 8 motel again, and we travel alot!!!

#1 Consumer Suggestion
What do you expect when you stay in a budget hotel?
AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

I've been in the hotel industry for 10 years and here these kinds of stories all the time. I recommend you choose a hotel brand that enforces the standards set by their corporate offices.
Unless you are paying for your room in advance, a hotel should not be pre-authorizing your credit card before you arrive. You will want to avoid any hotel that authorizes your credit card before you get there. They do this because they are having financial difficulties and they wrongly believe that if you card is declined then you will not show for your room, therefore a room will go unsold that night. Often hotels do this if they are in an oversold situation and they are trying to weed out potential no-shows. Hotel's that operate this way have weak management teams and should be avoided all together.
It's too bad that one of your rooms was given away but I can understand why. It's common to get calls to hold rooms and then nobody ever shows and the room goes unsold.
If you travel alot you should know all of this by experience, but again I recommend that you stay of mid to upper class hotels and avoid the motels that cater to those who are there to commit sin.
