On September 22, 2006, the Fleet Manager sent me on a dispatch to my home town to take another driver to recover an abanded truck and trailer. The truck was located at a local Semi repair facility with a trailer lot.

Since I was a new driver,I asked the fleet manager about this facility since I was going to need a place to park my trailer.

I told me that it was ok to park my trailer in there lot if I had there permission (which I did) as long as it was not a High Value Load.

I had been doing this since he told me this, well on Dec 31,2007 I had picked up a load of paper from the local mill, parked the trailer on this lot I had permission to use from the owner and fleet manager. Later that night I get a call from the Phoenix office that I had parked a loaded trailer in a non authorized lot and needed to reconnect my tractor to the trailer, which I did.

Well on Jan 3rd I received instructions to deadhead to the Richmond Terminal.

On Jan 4th I meet with my DM who told me why I was there because of the trailer deal. I explained to him what I had been told.

Then I have to talk to the Fleet Manager which is the one that said I could. After I remind him of what he had told me, he said he had never heard of this place and informed me I was fired for dropping a loaded trailer in a non authorized location.

He is the same person who said I could and even dispatched me to this place back on Sept 2006.

They lie to the drivers. Pay close attention, Swift has a very high turn over in employees. I wonder why?

Then after all this, they tried to rip me off of my last Deadhead miles and not pay me for them.

Either you'r ignorant, a liar, or you work for Swift in public relations.

As stated above, this must be the only trucking company you've worked for.
I don't think You'll last 2 years, but if you do you level of ignorance will speak for itself.

When I started with Swift, I was all gung h*o. Within 3 weeks of abuse, they could of fired me at any time. I could'nt of cared less. I lasted 6 months, long enough to get time in to go somewhere else. But after MANY, MANY problems, after having to reschedule a doctors appt. 3 times cause they would get me home sometimes a week to ten days late after being out for 6 weeks, after sitting on the phone many times for 4 to 5 hours trying to get my fuel card open, after countless times of being lied to, spending 6, 8, and 9 hours of my time looking for an empty trailer cause they made me drop mine so they could give it to one of there drivers from there terminal, being treated like absolute dirt by all that was'nt a driver, after many other unwanted events, it finally came to an end when

I had to spend 2 days on the phone trying to get my terminal manager on the phone so I would finally get home for that appt., I also aked for a new DM, was assured I would have one by the end of the day. I was told the fleet manager would call within an hour and I would get my new DM.

The fleet manager was buddies with my DM. My DM called and asked nastly what the problem was, did get me home for the Doctors appt., and pulled my truck while I was off for three days. Did'nt fire me but pulled my truck. His way of getting rid of me so he wouldnt have it on his record that I got rid of him.

So stuff your SWIFT'S GREAT crap, get a life and a real job.

Swift Transportation is not a bad company as far as trucking companies go. The trucking industry is a nasty and brutal industry. There are few companies in the trucking industry that provide the opportunity of union protections. Swift is not one of them. Swift is fourth largest motor carrier smaller only than Yellow UPS and FedEX. Swift is pretty good as far as trucking companies go, and you'll just have to take my word for it. To be totally honest in terms of being an over the road driver it is what it is.

Swift has an at will employment policy that clearly states that employment can be terminated by you or Swift for any reason or no reason at any time. Being as I am a driver for Swift I can tell you that there are things that I do not like, but those things I can attribute to any other motor carrier as well. The only difference will be the name on the truck if I go to work for someone else.

Just like any other job you gotta pay your dues and put in your time and swallow whole the turds as they come floating by. Its a job. It's just a fact of life. Thats why you get paid for it. You don't get paid for vacation all year long.

Like I said the policy states that you can be fired for any reason or no reason at any time. Being as drivers are in demand as they are I personally find it hard to believe that they just up and fired you for parking in a place where they didn't want you to. They may have written that down as the reason, but I can imagine that there was more to it than that. Swift per policy doesn't have to have a reason and you got one so there ya go; you're doing better than not. I'd wager that all the whining and being uncooperative and refusing loads and getting them to destination late and driving wherever the hell you want whenever you want and getting to and from places how you like probably had no bearing on you being fired for parking where you like whether you had permission or not, but rather than spend the time on that excuse they gave you the excuse you got. You put in what you get out bud. Apparently courtesy wasn't a two way street as far as your road goes.

Yet another one....

It is a pity that thousands of drivers have to learn the hard way about this company. Fired for doing what he had permission to do, yet they will let other drivers with multiple accidents continue to drive. lots of egos at this company.

Plus they are targeting the latin american population. That is their new pool that they want to fish from and boy are they jumping up and down at the statistics of this new crop. They sent me to bi-lingual training when I was with the academy, fully aware of the DOT requirements for speaking English. They wanted us to teach them just enough to pass the CDL exam.
