I would like to take this opportunity to discourage any prospective patrons of Tail o' The Pup in Ray Brook New York from wasting their time and money on this less than satisfactory establishment... My experience there begins after a high school football game in Saranac Lake, And since the Tail is fairly close, and neither myself, my younger brother, or my mother had ever been there, we thought that it would be a good idea to stop and get a bite to eat. We had seen their advertisements on TV and it looked ok.

When we arrived, we took a seat at one of the outdoor picnic tables, it took about 15 minutes for a waitress to even notice us. This would have been all right, if there had been more than 10 customers there at the time. When the waitress finally did come over to take our orders, she only wanted to take an order for drinks, no appetizers at that time. Then, after waiting for the drinks, she finally came back and took our orders for the main courses and the appetizers at the same time, which arrived to our table at the same time. In my experience, when you go to a restaurant, you want to eat your appetizers while waiting for your main dish to come out... Not so at the 'Tail.' When the main course had arrives, my brother noticed his order was not right. He had ordered the hamburger platter, which normally includes a hamburger, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, and waffle fries. He had specifically told the waitress that he wanted the burger plain, with only cheese on it.

When he got the burger, it had all the items above mentioned, and when brought to the attention of the food runner, she replied, 'well, he can just pull the stuff off.' We also had recieved cole slaw with our meals, but no silverware, when we brought this up, the food runner simply said 'I'm not your waitress,' and walked away. Several minutes later, our waitress returned to the table, asking if we had recieved all of our food OK. When we explained to her that my brother had orderes his burger plain and had gotten it fully dressed, and told her how the food runner had said to 'take the stuff off' she told us that was how a plain burger came and she couldn't help us. This is NOT how a customer should be treated when their order isn't right.

Following our meal, we tried to pay the check inside, but we were turned away and told that our waitress had to take our money. This led us to wait further for her to decide to come back to our table. When she did take the money, she had the nerve to ask if we wanted our change back after her poor service. We did not give her a tip. After my meal, I went to use the restroom, and the first thing I noticed was the rotten floor in front of the toilet which I almost went through, and a smell that would turn any stomach. The sink and toilet were a mess, and it smelled like someone had dumped bleach on the floor to cover up the smell... I would not reccomend that anyone patronize this establishment. I don't know what happened to the idea that the customer is always right, but this place just doesn't get it...

They need to realize that their customers are their lifeblood, and that they need to take better care of them. I guess they just assume that they don't need return customers, because there will always be some ignorant tourist that will see the place on the side of the road and stop. I just hope that people that are not from this area who stop there do not take this business as an adequate representation of the rest of the Adirondacks and northern New York. I have lived here the 23 years of my life, and I know that the majority of restaurants here are not like this. Maybe because of websites like this one, we can get the word out about places like this and slow their business down enough that they need to change the way they do business.
