Recently I received phone calls from this company named Tate & Kirlin. They said they have been calling me the last month but they always got a busy signal. I never received their calls! Today, July 16,2007, I picked up the call and a lady named Vallerie Crane said she was calling from a collection agency and I owed $130.25 for a VISA credit card. I did owe an account but I have been making payments because we agreed to a payment plan.

I told her I would fax the information, but I couldn't do it today. Vallerie said then I will mark you as "Refusal to pay". I asked her why she was going to do that, she said why would you ask for the fax number if you can't do it today, I replied I don't have a ride...but that is non of your business. After that, it was on, she started yelling at me and telling me I need to be honest so we can get this issue resolved and I need to pay her client (which she would not disclose). That there were no payment plans made and I need to make one now. She wanted my bank information, I told her as soon as I get info. about this account on paper, then hung-up!

I called the account I knew I owed and had them fax me the payment plan. Stupid me, I faxed it to Vallerie and it had my SSN and everything! I didn't look at it before I refaxed it. Well, she called back and said this was a different account from what I faxed her and was I ready to pay? I told her send me info about this whole thing, then I will co-operate. I said to her how do I know your real and where is the info now that they can't send me anything. She replied the "Client" already sent info to you and it was sent back, so you must have sent it back. I haven't lived at the supposed address in 1yr and a half!

After her yelling and screaming, TELLING me I need to be honest and just GIVE them the payment, I hung-up again! What agency can not send info to you that you never received, yells at you and TELLS you to hand over the money or the account in which I want to pay the balance off with, and TELLS you, YOU NEED TO BE HONEST!!!!

Bank Account Info, Validation

Did you have a payment plan with original creditor that is current or a payment plan with another third party collector? Are you 100% sure you signed it with the original creditor??? You need to find out who both owns the account and who, if anyone, has been assigned to collect on. If you are paying original creditor as agreed, they wouldn't incur the cost of hiring a debt collector/giving them a cut of the proceeds collected. You may have inadvertantly made a payment agreement with Tate & Kirlin omitting the fact they were not original creditor when you made the original payment agreement. I was a corporate Accts Receivable Mgr at one time, I know this first hand- only bring in a third party collector when all else has failed (I collected from corporations, not individuals!).

DO NOT give your bank account info anyone over the phone! It is not illegal to refuse to give it!

LOL @ yelling and screaming. I suggest you either buy a digital recorder or get a cell phone with the ability to record calls built in. That's what I did. You will be amazed how cordial people can be when you notify them that you are recording. That said, maintain a professional demeanor yourself as well. Keep a referee's whistle near your phone for the next time you receive any over-the-top abusive phone calls.
