I have used TaxAct for severals years and had no problems....till now.

This year when I e-filed I got to a page where it said I needed to use Republic Bank as a middleman between myself and the IRS. No where on this page did it give me the option of NOT using them, so I proceeded. My sister uses them as well and told me when she filed her taxes she didn't have to use them, that the page with their info on it didn't even come up. Now, I do itemize and she doesn't, but I don't see how that would make a difference. The cost for using Republic Bank was $15.95....on top of the $12.95 I had to pay to file my State taxes.

I sent them an email on 2/10 complaining about having to use Republic Bank as a middleman to file my taxes and got a computer generated email saying I would get a response from them in 48hrs. As of today, 2/22/09, I STILL haven't gotten a response.

On top of that, I haven't received ANY confirmation emails indicating that my taxes were even submitted to the IRS, so I'm paying Taxact and this stinking bank for what???

Just to make sure I wasn't missing anything I created an account with false information to see if the Republic Bank crap would come up and guess what, it DIDN'T!! So how could it show up for one account and not the other?? Sounds like someone is getting screwed somewhere and in this case it happens to be me.

I'm a single parent and work 2 jobs. While $15.95 may not seem like much, that's almost a full tank of gas for my little card.

I strongly recommend that you use anyone but Taxact and if you do decide to use them, be aware that you don't need to use their middleman bank.

Repiblic bank

This person had Republic Bank as a middle man because they chose to have the software cost taken from their refund.  Taxact gains nothing from this as it is a bank charge not taxact charge.  They would have had to agree to the terms and service agreement to choose this option, and they would have been told there is a $15.95 fee for the service.  If people would read what they are agreeing to they wouldn't get charged these fees.  This is just another person who thinks they can argue their way into free services after the fact.  BTW all emails are answered within the day if their email is not undeliverable.
