I went to Taylor Hyundai and asked to see theri Hyundai Tucson they had advertised for $169 per month for 84 months. The salesman "Sean Service" told me thats the GLS model right here. We took it for a test drive and fell in love with it. He said lets go look at some numbers.

We went into his office and we filled out a credit app. He came back with our credit report and them BAM! he hits us with the real information. The fine print is you need $4500 down and an intrest rate of 9%. I said we cant put $4500 down, he said well how about $2000 down and a trade. We verbally agreed to those terms, he said he would have to talk to his finance mgr.

He came back with a payment of $284 per month. I asked why such a high payment. He said " the model advertised for $169 is a GLS model, I said we test drove the GLS model. Then here comes more fine print The GLS model for $169 per month comes with a manual trans. no A/C, no power options, and no radio. I asked how can that be they are both GLS models they come with all the same options. He said thats the way it is.

I told him the payment was too high. He went back to his finance mgr and came back with another payment of$278 per month. Now they want $3000 down plus a trade, they were only offering $1500 for the trade. Ok so now we're up to $4500 down and a monthly payment of $278. I said still too high.

He went back to his finance Mgr and he came out to talk to us. He said the absolute best he could do on that model was $ 258 per month . I was more than willing to pay $230 per month but not $258 for a car that was advertised for $169.

My reason for willing to pay more was to get the model we test drove. They still wanted $258 per month PLUS $3000 down PLUS a trade of $1500 and then still finance the entire purchase price of $22,000. So they want me to take out a loan for $28,000 for a $22000 vehicle and still pay 9% intrest and tax tags title out of pocket. I'm not a super smart man but I know when someone is trying to screw me.

I called the finance MGR on it and raised a stink about the whole bait and switch. He said "oh thats illegal we cant do that" I said what the hell do you think youre doing? My wife and I finally took the credit app out of his hands, ripped it up and threw it on the floor and walked out chanting "Bait and Switch

Complaint is without any merit

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 27, 2009

Taylor Hyundai, is a member of the Taylor Automotive Group which has been a dealer in the Toledo metropolitan area for 30 years. In those 30 years Taylor Automotive has had the privilege of selling over 75,000 vehicles. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of its employees, Taylor Automotive has earned a well established reputation of stellar customer satisfaction, offering the highest level of customer service and providing superb value. Taylor Hyundai is the area's top Hyundai dealer.

Despite always attempting to meet and exceed customer's expectations, some people can simply not be satisfied. This is one of the rare cases where a customer seemed not to understand the difference between the cost of an advertised vehicle and the one that he wanted to purchase, which had many more options.

The customer's complaint is without any merit. The customer even filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office which complaint was closed in December of 2008 with no action taken against the dealer.

This matter stems from the advertisement of a Hyundai Tucson for $169 a month by Taylor Hyundai. The customer, wanted to purchase a Hyundai Tucson with an automatic transmission. The vehicle which was advertised for $169 was a base model which comes with a standard manual transmission. In addition, the model which the customer was interested in purchasing also had air conditioning and various other options that the base model did not. The advertised Tucson GLS was in stock and available for the advertised price of $169 per month. The vehicle selected by the customer included additional options including the automatic transmission, air conditioning, etc. and therefore was not available for $169 per month.

The need to make a down payment as well as pay out-of-pocket expenses such as tax and title fees in addition to paying interest on financing to purchase his desired vehicle. The need for a 20% down payment and costs such as tax and plates was properly disclosed.

Despite the best efforts of the involved Salesman, Finance Manager and General Sales Manager to explain the cost of the vehicle, the customer either did not understand or was not able or willing to purchase the vehicle that he had selected.

The television advertisement regarding the Hyundai Tucson available for $169 per month, states in its disclaimer, that the vehicle's pricing is based on approved credit and financing for 84 months at 8.9% with 20% of MSRP down, Hyundai Motor America rebates and incentives to dealer, Tucson stock number H117, 8 in stock, MSRP $19,270.

Unfortunately this appears simply to be a circumstance of the customer wanting a vehicle different than the one that was advertised but not being willing to pay the additional costs of a much better equipped model. Additionally, the customer did not understand that not all specific models such as the Hyundai Tucson GLS come with identical options as there are GLSs available without an automatic transmission or air-conditioning, etc. Obviously, vehicle with additional options costs the manufacturer more to produce and is sold for a higher price. It is well established, in the automotive industry, that even the same model will vary in price based on the options which that model contains.

You walked - unlike most of the people on ROR. The Hyundai Tucson (Automatic) comes with all the power features as well as air and radio, cruise, etc. Fully equipped for $19,355 plus a destination charge. The GLS with manual also comes with all the power features - locks, windows, remote keyless entry, radio, etc. so in essence the salesman was lying to you. You were also at fault for not getting on Hyundai's web page and researching this vehicle BEFORE you went to the dealer. They only have two models - automatic and manual. It doesn't take long to research these cars since the equipment is all factory installed. You were also at fault for not obtaining financing from your credit union or elsewhere BEFORE you went to the dealer. 9% on a new car is ridiculous unless you have bad credit. You should be looking at around 5%. Your trade should be sold privately. You will get from a dealer exactly what he can get the car at auction for or less if he can talk you into it. He will also pad the cost of the new car and inflate what he says he is giving you for a trade. Of course if you are upside down on your trade the dealer will be "happy" to pay it off so that you will then be deep in the bucket on your new car.

When I buy a car I spend about 15 minutes at a dealer. I know exactly what I want - if he doesn't have it I order it. I know exactly what financing I will get, and
I never trade anything in. Dealers much prefer people like you but you get a gold star BECAUSE YOU WALKED!
