I had applied for an emergency loan online because we had a funneral To pay for and we were short on money to pay our rent. Two days later I recieved a call that, thankfully, I missed. The "represenitive" stated he was from US BANK, that he was a manager and I had been approved. So I called back. I was connected with a middle eastern man who called himself "James Smith". He stated that I in fact had been approved for a loan, I just had to pay the $75 government tax fee. That my loan was through "Apple technologies".

I was instructed by Mr. Smith that I had to go to Target (specificaly) purchase a $50 apple Itunes gift card and a $25 apple Itunes gift card and say it was for personal use with him on the phone. Then when I got outside the store I was to read him the numbers on both gift cards. Then I would recieve an email to E-sign my documents. Then within 2 hours my loan would be direct deposited into my account. Of course, they never were. I called back repeatedly and it kept saying the person at this extension is unavalible please leave a voicemail.

There was a total of 3 phone numbers who contactedmy from "US BANK". They are as follows; 269-224-9410 if you call this number it sounds legitamit hold music and all. 702-551-7166 This is the number of "Mr. Smith".  Last but not least, 302-223-3553. This is the number that called me originally and left me a voicemail. Which I saved to my phone using my Visual Voicemail box.

When I called all these numbers back inquiring about my funds, I was greated by a Mr. Watson. Only 1 time did they answer the phone and say thank you for calling US BANK. That was yesterday  June 30th, at 2:44PM Central time. He assured me my loan would be deposited at 5pm my time. That their servers are "down" due to weather and 25 people are awaiting their loans as well.

I used a reverse number look up to find out information about these 3 numbers because something just isnt right about this. the 269-224-9410 Number isnt a valid US number. The 702-551-7155 number says Carrier CENTRAL TEL. CO. and that its a cell phone located in Las Vegas, Nevada. And the 302-223-3553 number says Type:Landline Carrier:TCG NEW JERSEY, INC. - PA County:Kent  ZIP code:19977  Location:Smyrna, Delaware.

All of the men I spoke to had a middle eastern accent. I should have known better. Going through the death in the family and needing a loan deseperatly, my judgement was clouded. I didnt put 2 and 2 together until one of them asked me my age. He said I sounded 18. I replied to him " what does my age have to do with my loan." so I stared googling these numbers. I was also told I'd recieve an email from usbank.org to e-sign. No such website exists. The org part let me know that I had been scammed.

Here is another bit of info for you...

Whenever anyone asks you for an upfront fee for a consumer personal loan, it is a scam. Having you run out to Target and get two itunes cards is another tip that it is a scam. Reading the info off the cards is one more tip. In other words, if anyone asks you for money upfront to get a loan....don't do it.

The only good thing about this is that $75 is a cheap lesson but a lesson you won't forget. These scammers are everywhere today.  If you want to learn more about recognizing a scam without actually getting ripped off, go to the FTC.gov website and look up financial scams. There are many...but you will see a pattern and know what to avoid in the future.
