A few days ago I recieved a letter from "American Classic Car Restorations, 514 Daniels St, #324, Raleigh, NC. This company owner James Grosslight stated he has bought out Brian Clark and his point of contact is Bill Balsley. In the letter it stated new policies if I wanted my car to be repaired at this business. This company included a mini contract stating any money given to Brian Clark at The Classic Chasis would not be honored, I am out cash. On 27 April 2011 I was contacted by Bill Basley where I asked about Brian Clark now being employed with the new company, "American Classic Car Restorations. Mr Balsley did confirm this fact and I asked if they thought it was unusual to have someone working for the New Company that had ripped off clients. Mr Balsley said he did not have a problem with it. Go figure!

Owner of body shops in Fayetteville, Lillington faces chop-shop charges

AUTHOR: Nc camaro - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 21, 2012

Seen this in the local paper today. Guess this pretty much sums it up. Link:

Owner of body shops in Fayetteville, Lillington faces chop-shop charges

By James Halpin

Staff writer

The state Division of Motor Vehicles has seized 20 vehicles and charged the owner of two auto body shops with running chop shops after an inspection in December found vehicles with missing or altered identification numbers.

James Theodore Grosslight, 54, of the 100 block of Carmichael Court in Cary, is charged with three counts of chop shop activity and 38 counts of possessing vehicles or vehicle parts without manufacturers' numbers.

Most of the vehicles were found at the American Classic Car Restoration shop at 3951 Airline Drive - a shop formerly known as Classic Chassis. Grosslight took over the business in May, saying he wanted to straighten out the mess after its previous owner was accused of collecting thousands of dollars from soldiers and others for work that was never completed.

Marge Howell, a spokeswoman for the N.C. DMV, said an inspector with the License & Theft Bureau conducted an inspection of the business Dec. 22 and found a car with a missing vehicle identification number.

"The initial inspection was just a normal business inspection," she said. "Our inspectors go to automobile dealerships routinely to do their checks. They all have to be checked at least once a year."

A subsequent check of the shop revealed 18 vehicles had identification numbers that had been altered, defaced or removed, Howell said. The 18 vehicles were seized, and the inspector traced one of the numbers from the shop to another shop Grosslight owns in Lillington, she said.

A search of that shop, Classic Customs & Collision at 303 E. Cornelius Harnett Blvd., turned up two more cars that had removed or altered VINs, Howell said.

Grosslight was arrested on some of the charges in Fayetteville on Jan. 13 and on additional counts Tuesday in Lillington. He has been released on a total of $25,000 bail.

Fighting the charges

In an interview Friday, Grosslight said he does not understand why he has been charged with running chop shops and he plans to fight the charges.

"I am beyond floored. I cannot believe that our system can charge people for doing the right thing," Grosslight said. "I don't sell cars and I don't sell car parts. I'm putting cars back together.

"The Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division began an investigation of the shop on Airline Drive last year after receiving more than a dozen complaints from customers who had paid thousands of dollars for work that was never done or was done poorly. Some, after realizing the work wasn't getting done, tried to collect their cars only to find they had been stripped and the parts were scattered.

Faced with the pending investigation and several lawsuits, the former owner, Brian Clark, closed up shop and Grosslight took over, buying the shop equipment and incorporating American Classic Car Restoration in May.

Though Grosslight was employing Clark after the transition, Grosslight said in an interview last May that his operation was not affiliated with Clark's and that Clark was only on board to help return cars and their scattered parts to their rightful owners.

Grosslight said Friday that he has been discovering illegal practices, such as a drawer full of VIN plates, at the business since taking over seven months ago but all of the violations he has been charged with took place before his time.

He has tried to get the cars repaired or returned to their rightful owners, but it hasn't been easy because parts are scattered and there are vehicles on the property whose owners are unknown, he said.

"The people that we have been able to get a hold of, we have gotten them straightened out or are getting them straightened out," Grosslight said.

"I have been keeping the legal authorities, from the Attorney General's office to the DMV, apprised of every move I make, from individuals picking up cars, to cars that I am putting back together, to cars that have engines I don't know who they belong to."Spokeswomen for the N.C. Department of Justice could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.

Another Car Guy's Input

AUTHOR: Nc camaro - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 24, 2011

Legal Jargon first: The following statements are my opinion and should be taken as such. I do not believe that any facts, evidence or exhibits I may have need to be revealed at this time or possibily on this forum. I am not a customer of ACCR LLC however, I am a customer of Classic and Custom Cars LLC. and have been a customer of The Classic Chassis.

There are two reasons for me putting my two cents in on this report. One being that my wife and I have been ripped off by Brian Clark. A few years back when my wife and I returned from Afghanistan I bought her a Mustang for her Birthday. After about $25K and a year's time all we ended up with was a gutted car chopped in half. We went a different way and Brian Clark paid us back and the money we paid for the car. Now this sounds good but every check he wrote us bounced. The amount exceeded the felony amount here in NC. In the end we got our money back but it was a nightmare.

The second reason I am posting here was I was invited by the owner of ACCR as well as Classic and Custom Cars when he stated his customers in Lillington were happy. Folks I believe this not to be correct. Honesty and giving your word mean different things to folks. I believe when you make a deal and give your word you stand by it. I will leave it at that unless the owner wants to open that can of worms on this forum.

My car is still in the shop in Lillington finishing up the process. One of the reasons I haven't pulled it is I trust in the manager up there. As the process comes to completion I will continue to update this post with my experiences. Once I have my car back and inspected I will summarize my experience, costs, workmanship, etc. so the consumer can make a decision. Who knows, maybe I will be one of those "Good News" stories and can report that my car is done professionally and on budget. Right now it is not looking good for the home team.

More to follow on my experience in the next week or so. I may not post on this forum, I may start my own rip off report or spin up a forum . I will link if need be.

   Some parting shots:

   1. Google rip off report under The Classic Chassis and you will see another report. Check it out if you want but I think it is some good reading. As far as the WRAL report mentioned I believe it is true. I, as well as many of you, have been in contact with the producer mentioned. I have been asked to appear on camera but have not yet decided.

   2. Check out scaminformer under the same complaint title and take a read. There is someone there willing to get things moving and all it takes is a phone call on your part. Remember that one voice is a complaint but many voices is a problem.

3, Military folks you have another complaint route other then just the Attorney General's website or office. If you feel strongly about this then use your resources and learn the process. I am in the trenches figuring it out for myself if and when it is needed. Still great information for anyone.

Please re-read the letter sent to you or visit our web site ACCRestoration.com. You missed reported that Classic chasses sold the bankrupted business to American Classic Car Restoration, LLC. (ACCR,LLC) ACCR,LLC did not purchase the business. They closed and are filing bankrupacy.

ACCR,LLC opened in the same location, in an effort to help untangle this horrible mess. New company, new owners, new outcome for our clients.

In fact, you will start to see praise reports being posted about us as we have finished 3 cars for clients that were taken by the former shop!   What was not accomplished in years by the former shop, we did in a month on these three cars.  Bill & I have staffed American Classic Car Restoration, LLC, with more talented techs from my private shop.  The quality of our restorations is now show quality.

PLEASE REMOVE YOUR POST AS YOU ARE NOT OUR CLIENT!!!

ACCR honestly wants whats best for YOU!

AUTHOR: accr, llc - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, June 03, 2011

Dear Mr. Pricket,

1)     Thank you for reporting many facts correctly in your report (Im not sure what happened to the truth near the end of your report, but we will look at that later in this reply report).

2)     Thank you for reporting correctly that Mr. Clark has NOT received and funds from the equipment that American Classic Car Restoration, LLC (ACCR,LLC) now has and nor will he.  And yes, the attorney general office is watching very closely and I am very happy about this.  I am the CEO of a BioMedical company, (and a avid car collector) as I too have been a victim of restoration shop rip offs, twice. I have set out to do something positive in the car restoration industry and would appreciate yours and other support in moving forward.

3)     Brian Clarks employment with ACCR,LLC is critical.

He is the only one who knows  what parts  go with each car that he was involved with.  We all need him

there!!!  Please dont think I condone in any way any actions that are wrong by or to anyone.  I understand the few clients hatred towards Mr. Clark, but please dont let that improperly transfer to me and ACCR,LLC

4)     Since you and I dont know each other, your subjective statement about my reasons for forming ACCR,LLC and opening a quality restoration shop in this location is half right.  Like all companies, Customer satisfaction, making money fairly, employing talented people, employing interns and providing a needed service is only ONE reason why American Classic Car Restoration, LLC opened in this location.

5)     Reason TWO, was to save this horrific situation from a larger catastrophe.

A)    Many of the victims are military personal deployed.  By opening up ACCR,LLC, I was able to put insurance on everything on this property, protecting theirs, yours, and everyone elses property.  I have done this at a great cost of thousands of dollars of mine.

B)     I feel deeply about the fact that our military personal are over there risking far more then dollars to keep us all as safe as possible.  Is this not the least I, YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE HERE WOULD DO?

C)     From my understanding, had ACCR,LLC not come in and taken the property over, the bankruptcy court would have taken over, and what a mess of identifying and getting back cars to their owners, their scattered parts  a difficult, time consuming process would have ensued.  The legal process is long and complicated understandably.  And there would be no insurance on the items on the property.

6)     Thank you again for correctly reporting that the DMV has been notified of this situation.  DMV understands my concern about all the cars on this property.  They have been asked to assist when needed in identifying cars on the property.

7)     Again thank you for reporting correctly that everyone with a car on this property must bring a copy of their title to prove ownership.  I am sure ALL are glad to hear this is a strict policy.

8)       ACCR,LLC is not trying in any way to make this tricky as you stated, we are trying to protect each person property as if it was our own.  Would you want it any other way???

9)     I see you are a little confused about the storage fees policy, understandably.  Once the owner of the car has been contacted, ACCR,LLC  gives them 30 days to make a decision on their next step.  We deeply desire to finish their restoration for them.  If they choose to allow us this trust, there are no storage fees (as long as they pay their bills in a timely manner).  Those who wish to do something else, they need to pick up their car with in the 30 day period.  (deployed military service personal are exempt from this)

At this point in your report, factual reporting falls away and I am not sure why?

a)     My other shop in Lillington is doing fine and clients are happy.  I have not heard or seen any reports.  I have fired a few clients from that shop that I found totally unreasonable, and I am sure theydont like the Lillington shop.

b)      NO ONE HAS EVER Shelled out any money, as you stated in your report, to either of these shops before the work is done.  Unlike other restoration shops, these shops do not collect a deposit, or any fees up front!!!  With our own money, we buy the parts, perform the work, pay our employees, and then invoice the client on a weekly base.  Mr. Pritichet, what is your purpose for so boldly not conveying the truth here???

c)    Deployed service personal, which are unable to be contacted on a weekly base to pay their invoice, have an option to place funds in trust at my attorneys office, for payments to us upon weekly completion and proof of completion.

Mr. Pritichet, in your update you once again were factual but only in part.

a)     Yes, we did require all to produce a title before taking a car, and you did not have a title with you when you came to collect your car.  Thus when you tried to take the car, I did call the police.

Without proof of ownership, you were committing a robbery to us, and I was protecting someone property by calling the police.  I would have thought you would appreciate the protective manor of my actions.  Instead, I was called a crook and a thief by you over the phone and in your report.  Shall I jus t let anyone who saysthis is mine take it away? (I would appreciate an apology)

b)   And The police did not side with you as you stated  they took all the information necessary to fill out a police report, And since the police had access to the DMV to verify the VIN number and your ownership as well as other confidential info about you, the towing company that ACCR,LLC did not have.  The police make an informed decision to allow you to take what they then knew was yours.

Keeping ACCR,LLC reputation correct, helps all the victims of classic chassis and future clients. We classic car owners need a professional restoration shop where they can get our desires for a fabulous restored car fulfilled, guaranteed!  And American Classic Car Restoration, LLC is this shop.

Mr. Pricket, I in no way wish to disparage you in my report, if I have directly, my apologies.  I will let the readers read your report and mine and come to their own conclusions.  I also do not wish to get into a war of words with you; we both have more important things to deal with.

I feel your anger towards Mr. Clark spilled over to me and ACCR,LLC unjustly in your report.  I would request another update from you here, and request an apologies to me and ACCR,LLC for your harshness that have no facts to back them up.

Thank you,

James Grosslight

Dear Mr. DG,

Please see our web site info for more info. www.ACCRestoration.com I know Mr. Basley did not say "he doesnt have a problem with Mr. Clark" We all don't like in any way what has happened. I know Mr. Basley and my position is that Mr. Clark is needed to help sort out this horrible mess of scattered parts. He is the only one that knows mostly, what parts go with what cars. Mr. Clark has been helpful in this process and all processes pertaining to the closing of his business.

All grievances with Mr. Clark and his former company need to be held outside of the new company, American Classic Car Restoration, LLC (ACCR,LLC)

ACCR,LLC was formed to help out this situation and get all the clients property safe and to complete any clients projects with integrity and quality, just like we do at my other shops. I have decided to do something positive about this
constant problem of being ripped of by restoration shops and I too have been a victim twice. ACCR,LLC is run and managed very differently than any other restoration shop.

Thank you for visiting out web site and our restoration shop in Fayetteville.

Dear Mr. DG

AUTHOR: accr, llc - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, May 16, 2011

Dear Mr. DG,

please see our web site for more info.   www.ACCRestoration.com I can completely understand your extreme unhappiness with Mr. Clark / classic chassis.

I am glad all went smoothly for you in the picking up of your car. What I think you fail to understand is that MR. Clark is the only one who knows what parts go to what car. As you saw, parts are scattered all over this large 4 building complex. Without his help, the new company would have no clue what goes where. We desire that all parts go to the cars they belong to. I assume you would like this for your car too.

We decided to keep me Clark employed to help with this huge mess. We do not like , in any way, that clients of the former company on this property were ripped off. I too have been ripped of twice and have decided to do something
positive about it.

As you may not know, many of the cars from the former shop located there are deployed military, and they have no way to deal with this issue.  We are taking great care of them as well as they are taking great care of all of us here. Also, on the day we opened, all cars on the property were covered by insurance; the former company did not have any insurance at all on the cars, parts... This has cost me thousands of dollars, and they are not even clients of my new shop yet. I was very concerned for everyone.

Given the facts above, I would appreciate your support for American Classic Car Restoration, LLC (ACCR,LLC)

Sincerely,

James Grosslight

PS: this is the letter on our web site

Hello Fellow Classic Car Owner,

My name is James Grosslight and I am the CEO of a Biomedical Company based in Raleigh, NC. Like many of you, I have had a lifelong passion for classic and muscle cars.  Also, like several of you, I have been taken by restoration shops. Over a year ago I decided to do something positive about this and opened a first class restoration shop in Lillington, NC.

On April 22nd, 2011 Classic Chassis/Brian Clark in Fayetteville, NC, closed and will file for bankruptcy in the near future.  The new company, American Classic Car Restoration, LLC (ACCR) is in no way affiliated with Classic Chassis.  ACCR has NOT taken on any of their debts or legal issues.  Any grievance or monetary discrepancy that you may have had with Classic Chassis and its owner/operator Brian Clark needs to be handled within the court system.

On May 9th, 2011, I opened American Classic Car Restoration, LLC (ACCR) at this location.  Our desire is to finish the restoration of your car at a special rate and get you back on the road very, very happy. From my understanding, if Classic Chassis had filed for bankruptcy the day they closed, the Court system would have taken over any and all property at that location.  Anything not directly attached to your car would be considered inventory and auctioned off to cover their debt.

ACCR moving into this property has stopped this process.  Also we have secured the property, the cars and parts, for you.  Our goal is to keep everyones cars/parts safe.  As you know, many of the owners of these cars here are deployed keeping us safe.

We would like the opportunity to complete the restoration of your vehicle at a special rate. We are more than confident, that once complete, not only will you be very, very happy, but you will also refer others to us.  We understand that if you should make the decision of not allowing ACCR the opportunity of restoring your vehicle, and you wish to take possession of your car, please show us the title to the vehicle (this is  a legal requirement) to claim your car and the items that are bolted to it at that time.  All other items not bolted to the vehicle at that time, will need to be identified as possibly yours, tagged and we will hold them for a short while, as we get everything straightened out.

Our desire is to finish the restoration of your car at a special rate and get you back on the road very, very happy. If you should have any questions please contact Bill Balsley, our new shop manager, at (910) 424-4487.

Sincerely,  James Grosslight   CEO

NOTE:  While I empathize with the frustration, financial hardship that Classic Chassis/Brian Clark has caused you, Mr. Clark will be on the property at times to ensure that your vehicle and all of its parts are found and stay with your car.  While Mr. Clark is on the premises, I ask that none of his former customers become confrontational.

The "NEW" guys at the "NEW" Company American Classic Car Restorations is running the same schemes at "The Classic Chassis"

AUTHOR: Billy Prickett - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 03, 2011

I spoke with James Grosslight the owner of American Classic Car Restorations. I
got some answers that should help us all out. Brian Clark is now an employee of
American Classic Car Restorations. The business is still located at the same
location at 3951 Airline Dr, in Fayetteville, NC 28306. From what I can gather James
Grosslight has decided to buy this bankrupt business The Classic Chassis from
Brian Clark to make some money off of the people that have been done wrong by
Brian Clark and the Classic Chassis. The new company is not responsible for any money given
to Brian Clark. This is because they only purchased the equipment and cars from Brian Clark.
This money has been placed in an escrow account and not under the control of Brian
Clark. The Attorney General Roy Cooper in the state of North Carolina is watching over
the tranaction between Brian Clark and James Grosslight to make sure there is
some kind of money we can get out of Brian Clark and the Classic Chassis when we file a
complaint. When I spoke to James Grosslight I was informed that Brian Clark is only working
there because he needed him to be there for Classic Chassis customers that come in that
have been done wrong by Brian Clark so they can get their parts back and claim their cars. I
believe that James Grosslight will fire Brian Clark as soon as all the projects are picked up or
they get all the paperwork back from the DMV on the cars that have been abondoned. I also
found that if you do not have a title for your car you will not be allowed to get your car till a
DMV inspector clears the car to be picked up. This is where things can get tricky! You need to
make sure you have the paperwork you need or I feel like they are going to make it very
difficult for you to get your car back. I have seen this trick before and it is a way to get storage
money out of you. I suggest you get over there ASAP to pick up your car or they will start
imposing a $35 per day charge to keep your car. If you don't pick up your car in 30 days
they can file a storage report and they will end up keeping your car! On another
note the trouble is not over for Brian Clark. I suggest you contact the Attorney
General in North Carolina an start the process for your claim. I can not stress
it enough that you need to get the right paperwork so you can get your car back!
I was also informed by Jame Grosslight that he offers great restorations on our
cars! In my opinion I would just get my stuff out of there and be done with
anything that has ties to Brian Clark. I have also looked into the business that James
Grosslight owns called Classic and Custom Cars in Lillington, NC and there are a bunch of
upset customers there as well. I contacted a couple of people that told me they pull the same
trick and sit on your car forever and no work ever gets completed after you shell out tons of
money.  James Grosslight is also a pretty smooth talker that talks a good game but how can
he be trusted with a guy like Brian Clark on his payroll?  James Grosslight has also made Bill
Balsley as the manager American Classic Car Restorations. When you arrive at the shop to pick
up your car you need to make sure get in touch with Bill Balsley before you talk to anyone
there. I cannot stress it enough that you need to make sure you have the correct paperwork
to get your car back and follow up with the Attorney Genernal in North Carolina.

*****This is an update to my story. Yesterday I went over to see where they were on my car and I determined the best thing to do was get my car away from these lying crooks. I decided to go ahead and have my friends pick my car up. Those lying sacks of crap at the shop said I needed all kinds of paperwork to get my car. They said they needed to make a copy of of my title before they would release the car to me. I told them I was taking my car and who around there was going to stop me? (I was very angry at this point) I then loaded my car up and they called the cops on me telling the cops that I was stealing a car from them! Can you believe this? The cop toook my side and knew what a mess this operation is and released my car to me. It would have been a lot easier if I had my title with me but it was at home in the safe and I was not about to drive 80 miles to get it. They want a copy of your title so they can file a storage report on your car easier. Make sure you get your stuff out of there soon! Like today! I can see they are going to impose the $35 a day charge to keep your car there! As for the restoration of my car it looks like a four year old put a model car together! Brian Clark is a low life dirt bag that is no better than the scum on the bottom of my shoe!! Get your car away from there and be done with these crooks once and for all!*****
