Timeshares, what

a huge subject.

We have traveled to Hilton Head Island now for over twenty years and totally

Love the Island.

We purchased our original timeshare week at Southwind II back in the beginning

of our travels and have used it almost every year since. We then purchased

another week at Coral Reef which had a point system which we have used for a

lot of travel.

We understand that a timeshare is NOT an investment, but is for personal

enjoyment and peace of mind. That being said, we should have been content and

just continued using our two yearly units and been happy. But no, we go to

presentations and learn how we can have our cake and eat it too.

"Right".

Well, we were convinced by some very smooth sales people to give back our Coral

Reef unit for a new one at a great resort, Island Links. The great thing is it

comes with not just one but two special developer weeks that can be rented out

for $1500 to $1700 per each week. That will pay all our maintance fees and give

a little cash to cover our upgrade costs. WOW, who could pass that up?

So, we ask what we need to do to get this done. We talked to so many quick

talking and convincing people in just a short while our heads were spinning.

Well, we signed all papers and documents and went out happy way. Proud of our

great new investment, oops, I mean purchase.

Once back home

and into our daily groove again, I am a supervisor in a machine shop and my

wife is a Realtor, we starting researching our options for renting our special

two developer weeks. Ok, who do we start by calling? Must be in the paperwork

here somewhere, NOT! Ok lets call Coral Reef. "Sorry sir, we know nothing

about renting developer weeks, you must call a rental company". So I

figured our main sales man could get this going for us. The main advisor to

this was a gentleman named DK, whom it seems is a busy man and we could never

make contact. So we asked whomever we could talk to in the sales department. I

do think that was another mistake.

We contacted a rental company and were told, " oh yes, we do a lot of

developer weeks for Coral Reef, we will list both weeks you have and should get

them rented in a few weeks." Once again, NOT! We first had to pay

something like $450 for them to list it for a year, but were told if it did not

rent by some means, they would carry it for a second one. Well, it did not rent

the first. After checking the rental companys web site, I did not find our

units the following year. Called and was told they needed a relist fee of only

$250 to continue. I won't say what I told them, sorry.

So, here we are in the timeshare frenzy of being lied to over and over again.

We know sales and real-estate are trying businesses, but we sure do not mislead

people at all.

What do we want out of all this? I would love to have Coral Reef Resort take

the Island links resort week back. Deed the Coral Reef unit back to us,

reimburse us for our difference in the units cost and compensate us for not disclosing

all the details of the developer week rentals.

We know it is a buyer beware world out there. I just hope some of the huge rip

off artists find it hard to sleep at night, even in their Egyptian cotton jimmies.

Can you update

We purchased a time share through Coral Resorts back in April 2012.  We have vacationed several years in Hilton Head are were so excited about the ability to continue to vacation there every year with out the hassle of finding a place to stay.  I wish we knew we were going from the frying pan to the fire.  Over the last two days we have discovered most everything others have written.

Our first payment comes out in 16 days and I am going to do everything in my power to correct our mistake, silly me for thinking that Coral Resorts was an upstanding business with honest employees! Like most people these days, we are financially strapped and put the money we would of used for our vacation toward our down-payment thinking we would be able to reserve our condo 30 days out with no problem, this per our sales person Julie Stefan who assured us, even showed us the available condo for the month of July.  What a joke!!

I feel like such a sucker because we just didnt know.  We have family members who have time shares and have had absolutely no problems but we are finding out the hard way (and expensive way) that Coral Resorts should not be trusted.

I wanted to know what action you have taken or if you can give me any information.  I am looking for help and willing to help others who are in our same situation.  I have contacted others who have recently experienced these same issues and would like to put something together.  Thank you for your help!

I have a similar story, but was taken while on vacation in Hilton Head.  I can tell you that the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (Office of Investigation and Enforcement) has secured a lawyer and is currently investigating these sales practices and customer complaints thoroughly.  I spoke with their office today and am currently building my formal complaint to submit.  I would encourage you to visit their website and do the same!  They can be reached at (803)896-4470

Thanks!
