I bought a scanner from the Neat company in 2013.  After that, they started charging my credit card $14.99 per month, and have continued that since 2013.  I never authorized any charges beyond the price of the scanner.  I just found this out recently and called the Neat company, their rep said that by buying the scanner online I have agreed to the monthly charge.  I responded that I have never had any contact with the company since the scanner purchase and had not authorized any further charges.  The company rep refused the refund the unauthorized charges and hung up!  The total of the unauthorized charges is $899.40.  Apparently they intend to keep the money they have taken from me.

You or others can object all you wish to my choice of words here. This is nothing short of STUPID for YOU to have not caught this the FIRST month! Go ahead and get mad! Still another example of the dumbing down of America.

5 Years

So your idea of proper finanical management is to review your statements once every 5 years?  Doesn't seem to sound once it is put that way, does it?

There is a very good chance that you did authorize the charges when you purchased the scanner.  After all since you let this charge go unnoticed for 5 years you have just proven your level attention to detail. So you probably just clicked right through the screens without reading anything you were agreeing to.

Now, MOST people who actually review their statements would have noticed it the first month and may have had a good justification for a complaint if they think they didn't agree to it.  Even if you didn't review it right away but it took a couple of months you may still have a valid claim.  But after 5 years of letting this charge show up month after month, the blame falls 100% on you.

By the way if your response to this is that you just don't have the time to review your statements or you just charge to many things every month to notice a small charge of $14.99. Then you can't complain as if the charge was too small to notice you obviously are in a financial position where that "chump change" doesn't matter.  Of course if you are like the huge percentage of people who actually spend the 15-30 minutes a month to review their statements then you would have caught this many...many...many months ago.
