Theater Research Speakers ripoff Speakers for sale but caught red handed, I have video proof and the police involved Wichita Newport Beach California

I hope I can help in filing this report. I guess I was about to be ripped off by these people.

My story starts off with the same situation. (Info on perp will be listed at bottom of report) Some guy came up to me at a convienent store and said he had some home audio speakers for sale and cheap! I asked where they came from and "he" assured me they weren't stolen or anything. The items had been won by him from his company he worked for (some audio place). He said he had 20 pieces to sell but had sold 10 of them already.

To my amazement he mentioned who he said he sold the other speakers to and it turned out to be someone I knew. I call my guy and he said he hadn't bought anything. Still it was a good deal to me it seemed.

He showed me a "DVD Review" magazine with the products in them (it looked like a very proffesional magazine). Retail on the TR-2800 model speakers were $3995.00 and on sale for $1995.00. He even hooked the speaker up to his make shift stereo system in his van, and it sounded great, except there were other actual high quality speakers in there playing also (didn't figure this out till later though) What a steal! I thought.

He offered to sell the remaining 10 speakers for $1500! I didn't have the money on hand and told him I wouldn't have it for a few hours (I was really commited to this purchase!)

An hour passed by and he showed up again, he opened his van and said he sold all the speakers already. Then he offered to "get" me the 10 I wanted and to top it off give me two more loud speakers (TR-3015 and priced $1499 each!) Again WOW!

WAIT! Didn't he just tell me he just won these items from his company? So how did he win all this other stuff he was gonna get me? Hmmmmmm? Interesting. So I told him to give me his number and I would call him to pick up the stuff. But in this few hours I immediately jumped on the web to find more about these speakers.

I first searched ebay to see what they were going for and it wasn't much. Then I searched for the "Theater Research" web site. Clicked on it (www.trtheaterresearch.com) and it only showed minimal info, just on the products and little about the company.

Two sites down, there was THIS website and it said something about rip-off. Caught my attention right away, the further i read about all the incidents documented the more I was frustrated and pissed off. I wouldn't be getting awesome speakers and the fact that I was about to be ripped off for $1500 bucks! HE HE HE I thought wait! Revenge! Try to rip me off?!!! and of course I ploted a little something he wasn't expecting.

First off I grabbed a camcorder, put some hundreds around some paper to make it look like I had all the money, then went to a storage facility and aquired an empty storage unit, put my pad lock on it. Then I called him to meet him at a gas station. I told him to follow me to the storage (not my house) cause I didn't want my family to know I had spent money and purchased this crap. He agreed.

We (I was also accompanied by my brother and he knew the plot and he was there for extra "protection") We unloaded 12 boxes of speakers into this bogus storage. I quickly locked it and told him to follow me to the gas station cause I only had $1200 and had to get the rest out of the ATM machine. He asked me if I was going to take off on him, and I thought about it and it was really tempting to do so, but I had a plan. We got to the gas station and approached his van.

I handed him all the fraud reports off this web site and the rip off claims. You should have seen his face! He began to start shaking! He was nervouse. Of course by this time my brother is on the phone with the police, then I called them on my phone also. Man was he in for a surprise. He jumped on his phone and called various people (bout 5 or 6, probly to warn them he'd been busted), then pretended to call the cops and claimed that I had ripped him off by not paying him.

Although technically what I did was illegal, I wasn't going to let this guy off for trying to rip me off. The second the cops show up he ran to them and tried to plead his case, saying that he had receipts for all this stuff. I asked to see the receipts and if the invoice showed the price of the speakers, then I told him I would still pay him for all his merchandise (I think I would have anyways), but he wouldn't show me the receipt. Cause the items are worth no more than maybe $50 a piece anyways.I informed the authorities of what I had done and what I suspected and my findings on the internet.

I also told them that I had no intentions of with holding his stuff if it was a legit deal, but those who have been ripped off by this group knows that it is bogus. By the way I wished I had a pic of his face when the cop came to me and we shook hands and asked how each was doing, hehehe, turns out the one of the officers who was there was a friend of mine, just a slight coinsedence. According to the law he did nothing wrong (he had receipts for the stuff and probly fake anyways), only for selling items with no permit and no tax number. The officer told me that he was gonna go free, with his stuff, but not to stay in this city or they would bust him.

Long story short I just wanted the law to know about this scam and get hard info on at least one of the perps. I also informed the "Theater Research" people of the incident. Did you guys know if someone crosses state line to "scam" it's racketeering? and a federal offense? If you are reading this "TR" then mark my words, I hope you get your a*s busted and put away. Also I reported this to someone at the local news station on a consumer alert and I hope they will do an investigation into this scam.

Here are the hard facts on this incident. Perp's name: Bill W. (cops have his full info) Vehicle: White for fan with Texas Tags (6PB-N59) Phone number and I have no idea where this is from (281)734-0538 There is a report in the files and a case number and will be turned over to financial crimes department here in the city, I hope what I have done will prevent or at least reduce the number of people they scam, please pass this message on to everyonel you know, cause it seems there are reports of this happening all over the country.

OH! By the way! Did I mentioned that I have all this on video?! My bad, just a precaution to what i did and have documented. I can send it to whom ever is interested in aquiring it to help solve your case if you have been ripped off. I shows most of everything we did including a very good image of the vehicle and perpatrator. I will only release this video to those who have been a victim of this scam and only for the purpose of helping you solve your case. Thanks and have a nice day.

**NOTE** FROM THE INFO GATHERED FROM THIS SITE AND PREVIOUS REPORTS OF OTHERS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, IT SEEMS THAT THE COMPANY IS A FRAUD AND IS SELLING WORTHLESS STEREO EQUIPTMENT. AND THERE ARE PEOPLE ALL OVER DOING THE SAME THING WITH THE SAME RESULTS OF INDIVIDUALS BEING RIPPED OFF. I WISHED THERE WAS MORE INFO FROM THIS COMPANY AND IT'S PRODUCTS, BUT THE REALITY IS THERE ISN'T MUCH, 3 WEBSITES RELATED TO THIS PRODUCT AND ONE IS FOR RIP OFF SCAMS?! I AM NOT MAKING ANY CLAIMS AGAINST THE "THEATER RESEARCH" COMPANY, JUST THAT THIS IS TOO MUCH OF A GOOD DEAL TO BELIEVE AND UPON COMING INTO THE NEW INFO FROM THIS WEBSITE, I FELT THE OBLIGATION TO PROTECT MY SELF AND OTHERS OUT THERE FROM BEING RIPPED OFF. I WISHED THIS WAS THE REAL DEAL CAUSE I COULD MADE A "STEAL" ON THIS PURCHASE FOR "AWESOME" EQUIPTMENT, BUT ANYWAYS I AM HOPING THERE IS SOME LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY OUT THERE WHO WILL PICK UP ON THIS SITUATION AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. THERE SEEMS TO BE ALOT OF PEOPLE AND PROBLY A LOT MORE (WHO DON'T KNOW THIS IS A SCAM) WHO HAVE BEEN A PART OF THIS UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT. I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY HELP RESOLVE THIS SCAMMING ISSUE WITH AUTHORITIES IN ANY WAY I CAN.
