We retained Thomas L. Dickson of the Dickson Law Group in November 2012 to represent us and our entities. We paid substantial retainer at the outset for them to perform specific agreed upon tasks.

Discussions were had at the outset and it was agreed among the parties that the following would occur immediately:

1. File a Motion for Dismissal of irrelevant parties.
2. File a Motion for Summary Judgment based on an illegal administrative process.
3. File a Motion to Compel Responses to Discovery that were months overdue.
4. Submit our reply to opposing side’s Settlement Offer.

Thomas L. Dickson was to handle the case and associate Bryan Johnson was to perform routine functions.

Despite numerous written requests for updates and phone discussions, as late as March 26, 2013, we received no reply from the Dickson Law Group regarding the above.

Their only communication involved sending regular billing for services supposedly rendered. We questioned but continued to pay invoices even after it became apparent something major was wrong. This was a mistake.

On March 26, 2013, we again emailed the Dickson Law Group with yet another request for update and explanation of billings. They responded three days later to inform us the opposing side had filed a Motion for Partial Summary Judgment.

This Motion had been filed almost a week earlier but Dickson Law Group had failed to notify us. They provided no explanation, nor did they respond to further inquiries regarding billings or actions they were supposed to have already taken but had not.

Dickson Law Group then spent the next several months attempting to withdraw from the case, filing two separate motions to withdraw, each with a Motion for Reconsideration after the Court’s adverse rulings.

Additionally, despite there being in place a joint representation agreement, Dickson Law Group entered into a separate attorney/client relationship with a fourth defendant without consulting or notifying us of their action. This is a clear violation of their Washington State Bar ethical responsibilities.

We further believe Dickson Law Group disseminated confidential attorney/client privileged information to opposing counsel. We questioned them in writing regarding this, but they again failed to respond.

Dickson Law Group not only took our money and failed to perform as agreed, they failed to perform at all. Eventually they launched an attack against us to force us to retain new legal counsel for the purpose of bailing out not only us, but them out as well, as severe consequences had resulted from their failure to perform.

Our alleged violations are serious, as we have sustained substantial damage to our entities and us personally.

Research indicates that our experience with the Dickson Law Group is neither unique nor unusual. Their business model appears primarily designed to separate clients from their money as fast as possible, do nothing, dump them, and move on to the next victim. Providing actual legal services appears to play only a minor and coincidental role.

We strongly recommend and urge you to stay clear of this family run enterprise.

UPDATE . . Dickson Reprimanded by Bar Association for Numerous Serious Violations

AUTHOR: Skykomish Hotel - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 08, 2014

The law firm’s expressed sentiment sounds warm and fuzzy, but in practice this firm appears to be a serious serial offender.

Without belaboring the complaint, Mr. Dickson has numerous malpractice and other lawsuits against him, which appear to have followed him along the trail of discarded law firms until he finally started his own firm, along with his sons Rob and Dan.

Here’s a link that shows lawsuits: http://dw.courts.wa.gov/. Click on ‘Name Search’ under ‘Search for a Person’, then ‘Accept’ at the bottom of the next page, and then, in the following page, type in the last name (Dickson) and first name (Thomas). Some of his cases show his middle initial of ‘L’ and some don’t.

Keep in mind these don’t include disputes that Mr. Dickson may have settled on his own or through his insurance carrier.

Last, but not least, Mr. Dickson was recently disciplined by the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA). The information and documents can be viewed here: https://www.mywsba.org/DisciplineNotice/DisciplineDetail.aspx?dID=1843. The charges appear to have been extremely serious.

Response by Dickson Law Group Employee

AUTHOR: Daniel - ()

POSTED: Monday, April 28, 2014

I am one of the employees at Dickson Law Group and would like to respond.

During the course of the case certain behaviors and events happened which made it impossible for us to continue representing the clients.  The two primary attorneys who worked on this case got to know the clients well, had many many communications with them, and cared about the clients on a personal level. Honestly, the attorneys would have much preferred to see the case to its conclusion and help our clients until they received redress from the governments involved.  They were and are going through stressful times and they have been treated very unfairly by the local government where their property was located (which is partly why they needed representation in the first place).

We would like to respond to each of these specific complaints and allegations against us on this website. Due to client-attorney privilege we cannot respond back in detail because this person is a former client.  To allow us the opportunity to tell our side, we have asked this former client to sign a waiver of attorney-client confidentiality so we can address online complaints.

Here is what we can say in general about our customer service and legal representation and our office policies:

1. We work very hard to have excellent customer service and be excellent attorneys.  We take any complaint very seriously, and are deeply sorry if a client feels they didn't get the very best service.  Honestly, we have a high guilt complex if a client isn't completely satisified with our representation.

2. We often get to know our clients on a personal level and have true concern for their welfare.  I am an employee here and I wish people could see some of the conversations the attorneys have about the clients.....they honestly care about them and don't just see them as a paycheck.

3. Most of the time, in litigation matters we strive to settle out of court as quickly and efficiently as possible whenever it is in the best interest of our client.  At times, an opposite party or group refuses to settle in a short period and litigation can span many months and become quite expensive. We empathise with the problems our clients are facing and wish that we could represent them forever whether they pay us or not.  However, in a long-term litigation scenario, as a smallish law firm we simply can't afford to represent a client who wants us to work for weeks or even months for free.  When a client owes us money, we try to be as patient as possible because we know legal invoices can grow expensive during a lawsuit, but at some point we have to withdraw.  When we withdraw, we try to help them seek other counsel or help them transition to representing themselves if they can't afford to hire a new attorney.

Again, the attorneys who worked on the above matter truly care about the clients who wrote the complaint above - they are going through a very stressful time and were treated unfairly by the opposing party of the original legal dispute. We honestly wish the very best for them and hope they ultimately have success in their legal situation.
