Hold on tight- this is a review you must read before renting from thrifty.  We started in Vegas planning to visit national parks in Utah.  The lady at the counter was rather condescending, curt, and was intentionally manipulating us to try and sell us things we didn't need.  We had to get to the final checkout screen and read it to realize she had added unnecessary costs, so we had to start over.

Once we got the car, we were initially fine.  We had a Ford Focus that was clean enough.  About halfway through our trip near Escalante, Utah, we got our first (yes, first) flat tire in the rear.  We changed it and were lucky enough to be near a tire shop.  They couldn't replace it but could patch it.

While inspecting this tire, they alerted us that the same tire already had 3 other repair plugs and the technician was shocked that we were given a car with a tire in such bad condition.  With no other options (we were literally in the middle of nowhere) we continued on, reassured that the patch would hold which it did.

A few days later on the main road in Arches National Park the low tire pressure light came on again, but this time for the front tire.  With little to no cell reception, we limped our way to our second tire shop in this car in Moab, Utah.  While speaking with the Roadside Assistance rep, I asked that all tires be inspected at this second tire shop and that Thrifty should cover this.  The manager refused to cover an inspection of other tires, even though two of them were damaged on this rental car.  At that point, I told her that this is our second incident with this car, so if she didn't want to be proactive we'll probably be calling again with another problem.  Eventually she talked to the manager and he agreed to have the tires visually inspected.

When at the shop in Moab, Utah, the technician discovered that BOTH front tires were worn to less than ten percent tread, which really concerned him.   He didn't feel comfortable simply patching the front flat one since it was so degraded and unsafe.   After a series of phone calls with customer service for over an hour that slowly became more confrontational, the mechanic got on the phone and insisted that the front tires were changed as well as the rear one we had patched earlier.  The Thifty rep was totally powerless and the Thrifty Vegas manager that she constantly consulted was very resistant to help us.  In the end three of the tires were replaced, which we and the mechanic thought was rather silly since the tires will now wear at different rates.

When we returned the car, we were given 3 days off - this was handled by the desk agent after talking to the manager hiding in the back.  Even though we asked to speak with the manager, the days were given to us solely so he didn't have to come out and deal with customers' legitimate concerns.

Thrifty Las Vegas was beyond negligent.  They gave us an unsafe car and were completely uncooperative in helping repeat customers who were stranded in the desert not once, but twice.  We will avoid them at all costs, and you should too.
