After placing an order online, my husband was redirected to the confirmation page and an offer that said in bold letters "FREE GIFT" and it specified that you only had to pay for shipping and handling for a Tiffany Young Handbag. He knows that I like purses and encouraged me to choose which purse I wanted, since it was a free gift. I figured for $5.99 you couldn't go wrong, even if I only got a couple of uses out of it. The website did mention that they offer memberships for autoshipping a new purse each month, but I didn't think much of it, due to the offer that said "free gift, just pay shipping".

The purse arrived quickly, and it was about what I expected: fake leather, cheaply made. Again, I didn't worry much because I had only paid $5.99 for it. We were traveling for the holiday and I figured it would be a nice clutch to use in the airport because it is small and has credit card slots and a zippered section to keep coins. After using it for two days, the seams started to unravel in multiple areas. Normally, if a purchase I made shows a defect such as this, I return it or exchange it immediately. I did not do so because it wasn't worth the effort for something so cheap.

A week later, I saw that there was a charge of $95 to Tiffyoung.com on my Visa. I called immediately to have the charge refunded and I was told that the charge was because my 14-day trial period had expired so I was charged the full purchase price of the handbag. First of all, there is NO WAY that this purse was regularly $95. Judging by the quality of the fabric and the craftmanship it is worth maybe $20, and that is being generous. Anyway, I told the person on the phone that I had not agreed to a membership or a trial and that I wanted a full refund. The representative told me that he could not give me refund, but that he had already cancelled my membership. I said that was unacceptable and requested to speak to his supervisor which is when he told me that they were just a third-party company and that I could email support@tiffyoung.com if I wanted to dispute the charge.

I have now emailed back and forth 3 times with the "Billing Department" without success. My most recent email said that I would file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and dispute the charge through my bank if I do not receive a full refund.

Long Story Short: This "Company" is a scam, not even their address is real. It is just a box at a UPS Store.

Consumer Responsibility/Seller Contribution

It would be so good and honest for both consumer and seller if the laws would change to permit the seller in their order page to not allow a  purchase of any kind (even for postage) go through unless the buyer agrees to the Terms and Conditions first.  In the Terms and Conditions, the deal with Tiff Young is clearly expressed; however, the consumer is not forced to read and sign and agree first.

The program can be easily changed to the click to the Terms and Conditions be on a page that comes AFTER reading the T&C.  The price of the deal should be in the first parbagraph where the buyer cannot be tricked into the T&A unawares.  This would cause a relief of tempers and headaches from customer complaints and the stress associated with it all for all concerned.  I for one am 'tricked' because I can't raise the fonts larger on my computer to read the T&C well.

By changing how your buying page is will keep young, naive people from wrong ordering, their naive complaints because it was too easy to pass over to the spot to click that they had read the T&C.....when it should be more difficult to buy for naive and for those who really want it to think a bit first while they are doing the ordering.  Employees won't have to listen to complaints that are needless.
