After utilizing a 3rd party company, Home Advisor, we hired Larry from T&L Painting, a self-proclaimed "dinosaur" in the plaster repair business after he contacted me through Home Advisor. He met with me on a Friday to see the condo and discuss the work. He was very positive about his plaster repair workmanship and made me feel very comfortable. He saw that I was stripping the windows of some older (possibly lead) paint and he suggested that he would be able to do this work for me, as well as painting all of the walls/ceiling/trim for me this week also very a nominal, additional fee.

I discussed this with my sister and she said she would meet with him Monday morning to finalize the work to be done. On Monday morning, my sister met him and he quoted her $850 to do the plaster work on the damaged walls and ceiling. He then quoted her an additional $1200 for painting all of the walls and trim, and sanding the windows and painting them, this included supplies. He knew his work had to be completed by Friday because we had flooring people coming Friday evening to begin taping off the trim to begin their work Saturday morning.

He got to work Monday and repaired the plaster to what we thought was our satisfaction and had begun sanding down the windows which put a large layer of dust in the condo by Tuesday.

On Wednesday we arrived to see the first coat of paint that he had mixed to a comparable color that I had chosed (Behr's "Comforting"). When we arrived in the afternoon we saw that he had sprayed/splattered paint all over EVERYTHING. We had told him we were having the floors redone, so he need not worry too much about getting them messy. However, he did not cover any surfaces, tape off hardly anything (like light switched, countertops, appliances, etc.) We also noticed that there had not been any dusting/cleaing done to piping/corners of the walls/etc that had dust accumulated in them. So he had painted right over the dust/dirt.

On top of that he  had brought an invoice that was $1000 more than he quoted to us that day. He said the plaster was $875 and there was an addition supply and labor fee of about $925. He argued that he would have never quoted such a low price for all the work that was involved. He promised he would clean up all of the paint spatters and repair everything back to normal, on top of getting the painting done in a timely manner. My sister's boyfriend wrote his a check for $1500 Wednesday night. He began writing the check out to T & L Painting (which was on the invoice), but then he asked for it to be in his name: Larry Carr.

After discussing/arguing with Larry and his third (in three days) assistant Wednesday night about the work he needed to complete and the messes that he needed to clean up, he told us he would arrive at the condo at 10 a.m. Thursday.

He called us at 10:45 a.m. Thursday to let us know he wasn't able to get into the condo. When I asked him why it was 10:45 a.m. and he was just getting there, he said he had to go to Home Depot for supplies. Then he asked me why I opened a a complaint with Home Advisor against him and he said I was a very mean person.

My sister arrived and told him that she no longer required his services since we needed the painting done by Friday night as we have the flooring guys coming on Saturday and he could get all of his tools and things that he left in the condo and leave. He argued with her some more and after a few racial slurs (referring to my sister as a slave driver saying "yessa, master, yessa master), he finally took his things and left when my sister said she may have to call the police to remove him.

My sister hired another painting company and they were able to completing the ill-finished painting work to our satisfaction for a fee of $1200.

Part of the reason we were so livid with this company is because he seemed to have no clue as to why we were upset about ALL of our things getting painted on. He kept saying he would clean it, but you can't possibly clean every speck of paint off of all of our things. His reasoning for not covering the counters "he didn't have any plastic."

List of grievances:
He told my sister he was starting in the bathroom wednesday morning so my sister cleaned it top to bottom, but instead he moved the cabinet doors that my sister had been painting (still tacky) into the bathroom in front of the sink and then they washed their hands over them and dripped water all over them.

He didn't clean the walls or pipes that he put the first coat of paint on, you could see the dust stuck to the walls.
The kitchen cabinets that my sister had been painting white (WHILE HE WAS THERE WORKING) werent covered and were painted on.
He Didn't cover ANYTHING when he used the spray machine to do wall painting
Things covered in paint:
the kitchen countertops
The dining area light fixture
The stove top (range)
the dishwasher

some of the on/off switches and outlets
Most door handles in the condo have sprayed paint on them
Our brand new $200 kitchen sink fixture that hand't been installed yet
The marble on the window sills below the windows
The actual windows themselves
The metal that is around the sliding door track
Painting window hardware gold that we did not as him to paint gold and had already removed 3 layers of paint from them.

The Springs that hold a decorative window from the ceiling
The support beam and piping that was black and we wanted it to stay black but he sprayed over it
Quoting us $1200 for painting all of the walls and trim, and sanding the windows and painting them on Monday, and then bringing us an invoice that was $1000 more than he quoted on Wednesday
Using unnessecary racial references/slurs including bashing similar work done by hispanic workers
And lastly, the plaster work that he did complete, he did not use a sealer as we had discussed and the water damage is already seeping back through the walls as if no repair work as been done.

I contacted Tanosha (the company owner) after trying to mediate through Home Advisor for some weeks. Tanosha threatened us with a lien against our property and offered us a mere $250 refund for the shoddy, despicable work and attitude her contractor gave us.
