TLC Plumbing Misdiagnosed Plumbing Problem To Try To Upsell Later San Diego, California

I had a leak in my bathtub and called TLC Plumbing to take a look. They informed me that my pipes underneath the bathtub were rusted and that the underside of the bathtub was rusted and all components had to be replaced, and that the bathtub was unusable. Since they were accredited, I assumed the work to be legitimate. After the original visit of $300, they told me that since I had a bathtub of an unusual size, it couldn't be ordered through a local hardware store, but had to be ordered through a specialist, and the basic bathtub and labor would be over $6000, and that additional work would have to be done to replace the tile.

So because I had used this company before, I ordered the tub from them, and they told me I had 3 days to change my mind. During that time I told friends about what had happened to me and one of them sent over a friend whom is also a plumber to double check the work. He said that it was a small part on the bottom of the bathtub that was causing the problem, and that he could replace the part and with labor would come out to be about $300 total. I was ecstatic but when I called TLC plumbing to cancel the order for the new tub, they told me that I would still have to pay a restocking fee of approximately $500. I refused and am going to small claims court to fight them, but when I spoke with their owner and explained that I was not going to pay a fee for a product I didn't actually need from them, he was merely insistent on collecting the money. Needless to say I will never use them for anything again.
