I saw a display of TMC Restorations's work at my local mall. As I had inherited a bedroom suite from my mother which had signs of wear and tear, I thought I would call TMC to get an estimate to determine if the suite was worth refinishing. I rec'd a call to set up the appointment, I was very leary when the young lady insisted that both my husband & I had to be home at the time of the appt. I thought this was strange as I only wanted an estimate and I made this quite clear. I was even asked if I had credit cards to pay for the work. I told her this was not relevant as I only wanted an estimate. The next evening super sales man Morris came to the house. Asked me questions as to whose suite it was and who would be paying. I said it is only an estimate I wanted. Morris had a look and then we all sat down to review the cost to restore only 3 pieces (a dresser and 2 night tables). Of course the hard sell started, showing us ads in newspapers how it is better to refinish older furniture than to buy new as the quality is no longer there. We were shown ads on how much high end furniture costs now a days etc etc. Morris then gets down to work - shows the supposed "value" of the 3 pieces if they were in good condition. Eventually we get to the cost $6500 approx.plus tax. I told him no too expensive thanks for coming out. Next, offer he can give me a discount - brings it down to $5700 approx. Again he was told no. Morris then gives us the spiel of how 3 guys are standing around at the plant with nothing to do so he can give me an incentive authorized by his boss - price comes down to $4700 apprx. Tells me he may not be able to guarantee this offer as there are 4 other guys and they may have brought in the work - I told him I didn't care so yet again we said no, thanks for coming. Well he said to close the deal we were to give him a price and he would check with his boss. As I had no intention of doing business with them I low balled at $2750 including the 13% tax. Morris got on the phone to call his boss. I got up and I realized he was not phoning an active line. At this point I told him to forget it no matter what the charge we were not going ahead. Well Mr. Morris got up quite put out and annoyed, did not even look at me to say good bye and drove off in his fancy & expensive car. We dodged a bullet, I just did not get a good feeling when I met Morris and felt rushed and pressured.
