I was recently "Hired" or should say recruited by Torchmark in a city I would rather not devulge, as I am still techinically employed by them and need to find another position. I too was given a Group interview, but unlike others, my second interview was by phone for 5 or so minutes.

Like others, the first interview was more of an "advertisement" for the company than an actual interview. I was swept along on a tide of promises, such as the vast amount of income I could make; all the while spending hundreds on administrative fees, licensing etc. including a new laptop and a cell phone w/ unlimited minutes because that is all we are allowed to use on the cold calls we make. We were told there were leads and NO cold calls! I have never been given an actual lead by the company. These are to be generated by agents.

After I was "employed" (as a 1099) I was told I had to pay $100 month for office fees! We pay the office to use their space for about 10 hours per week and have to provide our own paper for the copier! All informational flyers must be copied at our own expense. And ofcourse we use our own gas for running down business. If any mistake is made on any thing you turn in they charge you $10 per ommission/mistake.

I have invested well over $1500 for all of the above mentioned items, and have made less than $600 in over 3 weeks. You do the math. Any company which expects you to invest to work for them in this economy AND pay to use their office space for the hours per week you are told you HAVE to be there is not worth your time and effort.
The training they claim to provide is marginal at very best. My manager was a nice young man, who was too busy with his own appts and other agents to help anyone very much. I was left feeling overwhelmed and undertrained, so that when I did go out and find a willing "client" I felt I didn't know what I was talking about. I could not have "sold" a product had I wanted to!

Do NOT waste your time listening to these very well versed scam artists. Walk OUT!
Good luck in your endeavors and caveat emptor!

Yes it's expensive...

I worked for a subsidiary for several months.
You're not an employee, rather self employed.
I was told of the 6 figure income and that policies were so good that they'd "sell themselves".

I worked when the gas was almost $ a gallon and driving for hours for "I'll think about it" was just a waste of time.

Too many people and not enough business, if you ask me. They'd have been better
off to have 1/2 of the sales force and divide them up into territories.
I suggested that, in fact, and they didn't want to hear it...
