I purchased a new 2006 Toyota Tundra from Toyota of Lewisville. This was the second vehicle I bought from them. By doing so, I was added to a mail flyer and email database for promotions and future deals. On September 27, 2008, I received one of those deals in the mail. It was addressed to me and specifically mentioned my 2006 Toyota Tundra. It said that Toyota of Lewisville was looking for good pre-owned vehicles and that they would buy back mine at 100% MSRP. The only catch was that they would deduct .10 - .55 cents for every mile on the vehicle.

In two years of ownership, I had only driven 8035 miles. I still had the original window sticker from the purchase and it was listed at $32,245. Therefore, that flyer basically told me that Toyota of Lewisville was willing to pay anywhere from $27,825.75 - $31,441.50. I looked all over the flyer to find the fine print. I could not locate anything that would lead me to believe that this was a scam. I discussed the deal with my wife and she agreed that it would be worth the trip to take them up on the offer.

I drove to the dealership that afternoon in my cleaned and washed 2006 Toyota Tundra with the flyer in hand. I was met by a salesperson standing outside. He was one of ten or twenty scattered about the lot ready to jump on potential suckers, I mean customers. I should have smelt the crap and drove off immediately. He introduced himself and I immediately told him of the flyer I had received. He told me of the details and they were a spot on match. I was feeling a little better about being there. He asked if I was interested in any other vehicle and I told him I was willing to purchase a new Sienna. He took the key to the Tundra, so the appraisal could begin, and I looked at the minivans on the lot. He came back later and I told him of a Sienna minivan, I found. He went and got the key and we looked over and test drove the minivan. During the test drive, he even commented on the great condition and low miles on my Tundra. The salesman was very pleasant and I had no issues with him. He was obviously a newbie.

After the test drive, we went in to talk the numbers. I sat in an office for about five minutes and when he came back he said the used car guy would only give me $13,000 for my Tundra. He said that it was due to the V-8 engine, high gasoline prices, and older body style that the price was so low. I told him that the flyer was specific and that they needed to honor what was printed. The Tundra was in perfect condition, was well cared for, and had extremely low miles. He said there was nothing he could do and shook my hand. On the way out, I told the manager/idiot that they needed to quit sending these flyers out if they were not going to honor them. I handed him the now piece of toilet paper and left the dealership. On the drive home, I became more upset and decided to do something about this blatant false advertising scam. I called the dealership and left a message for someone, in management, to call me.

They did not call. I called the Customer Experience number for Toyota Motor Corporation and told them of my issue. I told them to remove me from the mail and email database and that I would never buy or service from that dealership again. Someone is supposed to contact me within 3 business days to talk with me, further.

The intent of my tale is to educate any one who is willing to read my experience. I just want the reader to understand that these practices still go on and will waste your time and effort. They do not care about you, the consumer. All they care about is attracting suckers to their lair (lot) and separating them from their hard earned dollars. Thank you for your time.
