I called the number on a Google search for a hotel where I wanted to book a reservation.  Instead of connecting with the hotel, I was routed to some "sweat shop" reservation bull pen.  I was unsure whether they were related to the hotel, or were a universal booking company.  

In a nutshell, I wanted to make sure of availability of that particular time frame.  In expressing my hesitation to confirm the reservation with my credit card as my husband was not at that moment there to give me the "green light" to reserve the room, the reservationist assured me that we could cancel the reservation up to 24 hours before the reservation date which, in many cases, is common.  Therefore, I booked it.  

When the email confirmation came through, it clearly states there would be no refund for any cancellation.  American Express will not honor this charge as the email clearly states this.  I was basically lied to on the phone to get my card number, and robbed of my nearly $500.00, then told the opposite of no refund.
