I arrived at Tucson Medical Center emergency dept at 5:30. I was called in good time for my blood pressure and temp. reading then sent back out. Was then about 40 min later called in for registration...this is the time you are officially billed and then sent out to wait. At this time their work is done..they're already getting your money and you wait. 4 hours...typical story I know but then I learned through informal channels ,because I used to work there, that my wait would be 14 hours.
This becomes prohibative and hence a denial of care.Essentially they billed me and told me to go somewhere else. I did talk after much persistance to the ceo and she was dissmissive and said thats the way things are. The staff is rude there and the whole proccess is broken. When I told the ceo this she laughed and gave me the old canned "we strive to improve and deliver quality care" bla bla...Tmc has a motto..."the most care" but the rumor inside and outside the hospital is The Murder Center.Dont go there!

The nickname of this place according to you is "The murder center".....yet you went there
As a person who has worked in an ER you know should have known that if it truly wasn't an emergency you would be a lower priority...yet you went there.
Then when you find out the wait may be 14 hours you left to go get care somewhere else.
And keeping everything you stated in mind..you are an EX employee...Yep I am sure that that had nothing to do with this report.

When I called the hospital initially I knew it wasnt an emergency but had some urgency to it...like "TODAY", not 14 hours, but they told me that was my only route to take...they consolidate the patient population in one location not to triage...we all know its a joke anyway , but to get payed. "Go to the ER ".Employees are instructed to say this ...most cases are not emergencies but you're told to go there anyway to get in the system. The nurses are rude and to advertise "The Most Care"is a fraud. Its a broken system but the ceo perpetuates smilingly that all is well and they're at the top of they're game .REALLY?

Emergency rooms are for just that - EMERGENCIES! Heart attacks, gun shot wounds, severe car accidents etc etc. You were probably put on the back of the list because you did not meet the criteria of an Emergency. You got billed because you utilized the ER and therefore are not exempt from paying. Next time go to a Clinic - there is no rip off.

Was it an emergency??

If you worked there, you know how ER triage works. That's why you were evaluated right after you arrived. A 14 hr. wait would indicate that you were not there for actual emergency care. You weren't denied care, you just weren't happy with the priority you were assigned. I'm not sure what you think they should have done. Should they have made someone with more serious injuries wait while you were attended to?
If your condition is not life threatening, an urgent care facility might be a better option.
