Also known as "Software Made Easy", the TweakPC product line is basically free software that they sell as their own.

They have a really nice but simple web site and they have done a good job with showing boxes (which they don't sell) and screenshots (which don't really match the actual software). Under the guise of being unique software created by them, they have aquired software that is freely available which you don't discover until you have already made the purchase. They keep the software cost low enough to deter people from othering with disputes, as that can be very time-consuming.

The "TweakPC Partition Manager" is actually "Parted Magic", software that is freely available from the author. The author only requests donations.

Purchases for TweakPC software go through RegNow.com.

There is only an email to contact the "vendor" - no phone numbers.

I have filed a complaint with my bank. I am hoping that this complaint gets indexed by search engines for those that research software titles so that other people don't get scammed like I did.

If what you're saying is right, you may also want to inform the original authors of the freeware that you recognize (such as the author of "Partition Magic") that their work is being sold for profit.

I've been a big fan/supporter of freeware and Open Source projects for a very long time, and know for a fact that the creators of this software take a very, very dim view of people making a buck off their hard work that they intended the public to have at no cost or to use and improve as part of a "community effort", as is the case with Open Source/GNU license software.

The result, especially if TweakPC is utilizing a fairly large number of freely available programs, along with the false claims that they've developed this software, will result in a plethora of cease and desist orders that, if they don't comply with, will further result in court action, drowning them in a tidal wave of legal red tape.

TweakPC may have taken the original programs and done some reverse engineering of the code just enough to be able to try to claim original authorship, but again, the original authors can put their sales in limbo while this is confirmed or denied, since in many EULA's, reverse engineering code is plainly stated as a big no-no.

In the end, it won't hurt to let the writers whom you tink are being hacked know what's going on so they can look into it if they choose.
