I received a bill in the mail from TxTAG and after opening it, it was for a car with license plates that I don't own.  I called them and explained to them that I don't own a car nor have I previously owned a car with the license plates they are billing me for.  The guy on the phone looks up the pictures and tells me that it is a Grey Toyota with Damage in the front.  Ok, mystery solved, I don't own a Grey Toyota and I have never owned a Toyota OR a grey car in my life.

He tells me I need to contact the OK DMV to get a history report of the cars I have owned and send it to them. Uhm, what? I explain to him the glitch is in their system and not mine, I didn't make the mistake and that I shouldn't have to spend hours of my day to correct an issue that is a mistake on their part.

He puts me on hold again and when he comes back, he asks what cars I do own...I explain to him all of the cars I own. He then proceeds to ask if I have any license plates that are similar, apparently, the system isn't as good as they think it is.  I explain to him that none of my cars match the color, description or have a similar license plate number.

He proceeds to tell me to that they checked the OK DMV Data and that it was listed as my name.  I told them it was a mistake and to check again.  At this point, he said that they couldn't and the system was correct and that I would have to go to the DMV and get a history report.  I requested to speak to a Supervisor.

The Supervisor got on and essentially was just trying to explain there was nothing they could or would do and that it was up to me to prove my innocence of this charge.  He kept saying "WE" checked the OK DMV data and my name was listed.  I explained to him that I didn't think that was the case and to please recheck as I am disputing that claim, I said if you recheck it and it's truly listed wrong then I will work with the OK DMV to correct it.  He said that they couldn't and I asked him what "group" he was calling "WE" then because I wanted it to be rechecked.  He reluctantly put me on hold and after some time came back and finally relented and said it was automated, but they had no way they could validate it, so either I sent in a "Vehicle History Report" or paid the fees, otherwise it would go to collections.

This is the exact reason why people have issues with companies like this.  How can you charge someone money and then not have to do anything to validate the charge with the supposed customer? I haven't been to Texas this year and I don't own the vehicles they say I do, but yet they can just make up a charge due to a mistake and then waste 100's and 100's of dollars in wasted time to "prove" yourself innocent of this bogus charge?

Sounds very much like our justice system.

As it turns out this ended up being a valid charge that should have gone to my Father.  This issue was introduced during a title transfer where I ended up getting listed as the owner of the Vehicle.  TXTAG wasn't able to clearly identify the vehicle as an SUV in the photo nor could they check the DMV Data again to confirm things since it's automatic. In the end, I got it sorted out.
