UC Berkeley Storage Refuse to refund security deposit, lying that I did not file a termination file, which I did, on the day of moving out, well before 10 business days before the end of the month Berkeley California

While renting the storage, I informed the manager that I would be returning on the 10th of the month through the end of which I had paid for storage. When I returned and took my things out of storage on the 10th, I signed and filed a termination of renting form, which I left with the employee. I asked if there was anything else I needed to do and was told no. A month later I called to inquire about my deposit, as it was never refunded on my credit card. Upon calling, the clerk first said that "normally" places require that termination be announced 30 days in advance, upon which I told him that I had said that I would be moving out on the specifc day when I rented, and that when moving out, I filed the termination form that they require be filed 10 days before the end of the month through which you are renting. At this point he said he would go look at my file. He came back and said that there was no form and that I never filed it. He asked if I had a copy, to which I said no, as the clerk said I did not need a copy when I filed the termination form. So, in the end, I did everything per their terms, filing my termination form on the 10th of the month, and they decided to simply lie that I never filed the form. From what I can tell, this is a typical business practice of theirs, with other people having been similarly deceived (who wrote about it in on-line reviews). I was very upset that in addition to the already shady practices that they employ in order to get more money out of people, that they actually are willing to lie to customers and destroy files in order to keep security deposits.
