I am a British citizen, married 2 years ago with a Japanese wife. UK Visa Border agency charged my wife in her first application for a spouse visa 650 to grant her with a stamp of 2 years stay. On our second application for a stamp to leave to remain at end of 2 years stay, we have to pay 1000 to UK Visa Border Agency. the total cost that we paid to UK immigration is 1650 plus the cost of life in UK examination. I have a baby of 7 month and I have been penalised for marrying a non UK citizen. I found those charge are a day light rip-off. Please add your views on this website as to ensure we expose the UK Government and all who are involved in this scam

UK Home Office Border Agency - their response to Ripoff charges

Please read below to understand the reasons given by UK
Border Agency explaining the reasons behind their charges Rip-off to British
citizens who decide to marry a non-UK citizen. In my view, the reasons given
are not justified and the policy charges are discriminative, aimed to penalize
families of mixed nationality. Please add your comment to this report as to
ensure we expose the UK Border Agency and force them to change their policy.

Dear Mr Zeroual
Thank you for your emails of 26 January about the different fees for immigration applications for settlement.
I can confirm that foreign nationals who come to the UK as the spouse of a British citizen are required to apply for entry clearance. In February 2010, the fee for a spousal entry clearance visa was 650. After two years, an applicant becomes eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). The
fee for an ILR application is 972. We set fees for immigration and nationality applications to reflect the administrative costs of processing an application, as well as the benefits and entitlements given to an individual on the grant of a successful application. For example, the benefits of a successful ILR application include the right to reside in the UK indefinitely without being subject to immigration time control or restrictions, unrestricted access to the labour market, the right to bring certain dependant relatives into the UK and access to certain healthcare and education benefits. The fees for such
applications are therefore set above the administrative costs of processing an application to reflect these benefits. The UK Border Agency thinks it is right that fees are charged directly to the users of the system who benefit from the services and entitlements offered.
In 2007, the knowledge of language and life in the UK test became a requirement for settlement in the UK. This means that, unless exempt, applicants for settlement are required to demonstrate a good knowledge of language and life in the UK. The fee for this test is 50.
Yours sincerely,
Mr SXxxx XXXXXle
