 A young boy came to my door selling magazines/books last weekend.  He was dressed nicely and very personable.  He gave me a sob story about helping kids in the ghetto, like himself, and making a difference with their lives.  He was here for a long time and said he was earning points/incentives for selling magazines.  He tried to influence me into buying the most expensive magazine on the list - Reader's Digest - 2 years - for $120.  I was sucked into his speech and ended up writing a check for $190 for two magazines. 

The next day I researched the company and found many complaints about this being a scam!  (Also, Reader's Digest is listed at $25 for 2 years!) I put a stop-payment on my check and also notified a neighbor who had written a big check as well.  It seems to me that the company is using these young kids.  Do not get sucked into this scam.
