Union Workers Credit Services sent me a letter in the mail with little details about their service. The deal was to send in $37 and then you will receive a $37 voucher back when you get your card. Or if you make a purchase of $37, or more it's refunded by your purchase. Not too shabby right? Wrong! Their website says you can only use the card toward purchases made solely from their catalog. There isn't much to buy from there either. It doesn't seem like it works like a normal card. That's the catch. They're giving you $10,000 to spend, but only on things that they themselves are selling.

AUTHOR: Cocozen77 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 02, 2007

After mailing my check of $37.00 to Union Workers Credit Services I canceled my checking account and remade it. Obviously in doing this the check had bounced when they tried to cash it. Because of this, they sent me a letter which I have just received today in the mail.

This is what the letter states:

"29 October, 2007

MEMBER NUMBER: ########(censored for identity reasons)

DEAR MEMBER,

WE ARE WRITING IN REGARD TO YOUR NEW PLATINUM MEMBERSHIP CARD.

YOUR PAYMENT FOR THE MEMBERSHIP FEE WAS NOT HONORED BY YOUR BANK. YOUR PLATINUM CARD AND NEW MEMBERSHIP PACKAGE HAVE BEEN MAILED TO YOU, THEREFORE WE REQUEST THAT YOU REMIT PAYMENT FOR THE ANNUAL FEE IMMEDIATELY.

ACCOUNT BALANCE ........................ $37.00

IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO BE A MEMBER AT THIS TIME, PLEASE RETURN YOUR MEMBERSHIP PACKET TO US IN ORDER TO CLEAR YOUR ACCOUNT OR, WRITE A LETTER STATING THAT YOU DESTROYED THE PACKET.

YOU DO NOT WANT TO JEOPARDIZE YOUR CHARGING PRIVELEGES BY FAILING TO SETTLE THIS DEBT. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS THIS MATTER FURTHER, PLEASE CONTACT OUR COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT.

SINCERELY,

MARY WHITING
CREDIT MANAGER
9U

ENCL "

Now, they also sent me a return envelope with their address already printed on it.

There are 6 things wrong with this letter, that kind of bug me out.

#1, The letter is not formal and is written in all capital letters. Normally when I receive letters stating anything from a business, they don't write like that, and don't write "Dear member" they write my name.

#2, "Priveleges" is spelled wrong. In my experience I have never received a letter from a true business that didn't use "spell-check". Hmmm.

#3, They don't give a phone number to contact the supposed "collections department", in fact they don't give any number to contact anyone at all.

However, they do give a number which I have called but didn't receive any answers. The number is "214-424-6888".

#4, The date is not in an American, so to say, format. Dates usually written by legit businesses write in mm/dd/yyyy, so why would they choose that format?

#5, The paper that it is printed on is perforated. Printers that print with that type of paper are old style. I'm talking late 90's.

#6, A formal paper, or business letter normally has contact information on the bottom of the page in fine print. This letter has the " UWCS" seal across the top of it, along with the mailing address. But why a P.O. Box??

I am truly interested in finding out who this "company" is being run by. And am still looking into it. I really want to know if it's a scam of truly legit.
