I always thought insurance added a bit of peace of mind during frustrating times. Unique insurance company causes so much added frustration it's unreal. My car was parked and involved in a hit and run accident on 6/12/2013. Almost a month and a half later I am still without a car. They only cover 15 days for a rental car at $20 a day. Obviously, that's not realistic to find. On top of that it takes them 2 weeks to even do an estimate and approve for a shop to start working on your car. Unique insurance company failed to approve the claim in a timely manner. Ultimately prolonging the process of my vehicle getting fixed.

I have a 2002 Pontiac grand prix which at excellent condition the blue book value is $3780. The estimate for the damages on my car is $3056. Let me be the first to tell you that my car is not in excellent condition, fair/good at the most. Any time I have ever called I had to leave a message and wait for a callback. When I finally was able to talk to anyone they were all extremely rude, combative, and aggressive.

Let me not forget, they reimburse you for the rental car. My adjuster "Latonya Strong" told me multiple times that after I send the receipt for the rental charges they would immediately process it and cut a check. Today I was told that they were "behind" and they would mail a check in 2-3 weeks. The receipt was mailed about a week and a half ago.

I called the damage property manager from unique insurance company today (7/8/13) to inquire about the process and see if the car can just be totaled out. Considering unique only cover $20 a day for rental cars up to 15 days. I will be without my car for approximately 2 months at the least which is extremely inconvenient. Upon calling Pat the damage property manager consistently got frustrated, raised his voice, spoke rudely to me, and ultimately hung the phone up in my face. Before hanging up he told me I could "cash out" for $2600 and they take 25% of that. I kindly declined and filed a complaint witht he bbb. Since filing that complaint my adjuster made it her business to tell me she received my complaint and insinuated that was her reason for being rude to me today 7/23/13.

I was merely trying to get an understanding of my options and the process since it is affecting me tremendously. This has to be one of the most difficult and horrible experiences of my life and the insurance company is being a total pain to deal with. I have never dealt with a person representing a company that was this extremely rude. My overall belief is that they are trying to get me so frustrated that I would cash out or they would rather take the chance paying for damages rather than deeming the car a total loss so I can move on. They are trying to find the cheapest way to solve the problem with no regard for my situation. By the way, I lost my job due to having no transportation. They refused to cover more days of rental charges.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

The ripoff continues with "Unique Insurance Company"

AUTHOR: Stafford - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, August 07, 2013

I am sorry to read of your situation with Unique Insurance Company. If you read my stories via ripoff report a few years back you will find many helpful solutions to your problem; however, you must prepare yourself for a long ride. The thing that amazes me is this company is still around doing business. Imagine the many people who do not know of ripoff report. I mean..look at the number of complaints against this company for so many years, and this company is still around doing the same exact thing. But the system will lock the Governor up and throw away the key but allow unique insurance company to continue ripping off the consumer. Like I said ...read my stories from years ago..My name is Stafford. I won a law suit against this company. I wish you the very best of luck!!!

Still a horrible experience...

You're obviously a representative from Unique maybe even Latonya Strong, most of you all seem to be argumentative. Your post seems very defensive. For the record, I have full coverage insurance and I have the most coverage that they offer. Of course I should have stuck with American Family Insurance like i've always had. I fell for the advertising flyer that came in the mail (my mistake). Lastly, I have no reason to lie about my job situation. I spent $900 on car rentals for 3 weeks and my job worked with me for 2 additional weeks considering my situation. I didn't have reliable transporation and i'm still waiting for the $300 reimbursement. I'm not seeking additional money of any sort from Unique insurance my complaint is based on the way they handle claims and treat their customers. No I wasn't rude and/or demanding. You're right it's not their "job" to care about my situation but many other insurance companies take those things into consideration. Those are the ones I'll choose to do business with in the future. Thank you for you opinion.

Its not their job....

Its not their job to care about your situation. Its a business and as such they DO have to find the CHEAPEST way to resolve the situation. Im 100% sure that they are doing all they can to assist you. Now to address your "rude" comment. Just from reading your post I can determine that your "rude" complaint is that they "rudely" didnt give you your way. Why is it when someone doesnt get what they demand, the other party is rude??

Im sure you did not pay for top end insurance that would have covered more costs. You probably took what you could afford. That being said, you can not expect the 5 star treatment when you pay a one star price. You are not their only customer filing a claim. You are one of many who have their hands out demanding money without going through the process. Your post is as false as this story sounds. All I see here is someone stomping their feet and holding their breath because life was thrown at them.

Your claim of loosing your job only goes to show two things. One: you bailed on your job claiming car issues. You now hope to parley that into extra cash. Two: Any sane and rational adult would have found another form of transportation to and from work. I know that when I had car issues and it took almost a full two months to get resolved, I was bumming rides from freinds and co workers. I had to walk many times. I even picked up a bicycle to help. So claims of loosing your job is not going to get you either sympathy or money from the insurance company. They were not the ones who hit your car. They have nothing to do with it except try and make it right for you. Im also 100% sure that you DID NOT pay as much to them as you are claiming in repairs.

So try and have some patience. Its a system and it all takes time.
