I made the mistake of signing up for lousy internet "service" with net-zero because the initial offer was free. After the free trial period, we cancelled the "service" and switched to a more reputable company.
Now, a year later, United Online Collections sends a letter claiming we owe Netzero $33.80! Also, I was never notifed by Netzero of any unpaid balance!
The letter includes a phone number, 866-210-1700, that you may call only its just a recording. No option to dispute, just how to pay them.
Netzero also declines to give me ANY information. They deserve to be put out of business for these fradulent claims.

Hi, you said you canceled after your trial period. If you canceled after the trial period, obviously you owe them money. If you canceled before the trial period, present your proof of cancellation to them (hopefully dated before the trial period). Your also going to need to have a copy of their terms that state the time period you have to cancel within. Sometimes canceling at the last minute isn't good enough and companies require you to cancel within a certain period in the trial period.
Keep in mind trial periods aren't designed to give away free service, they are a marketing tool.
Best of luck to you.
