When I reviewed my phone bill this January 2008, I found a charge for 49.95. It was a good thing I looked at it. Some unknown scam artist had figured out how to bill me for something I didn't order.

"Oh, Yes", Rebecca said. "You ordered it in November. You didn't get our email or letter?" Of course not.

First of all, I would have never subscribed to a service I knew nothing about. Secondly, I do recall hanging up on several aggressive sales people who were trying to get me to buy services I didn't want.
Thirdly, I would NEVER order a service I couldn't even find on the internet.
Fourth, this wasn't anything I needed or could use, so why would I order it?

I am going to report these people to as many government and public service agencies I can find. I have seen several complaints about this company on Rip-Off. These frauds have to be stopped. They seem to be criminals, not a Business Directory Service.

I have contacted Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, and Lynne Woolsey, US Congresspersons from California. I have also contact the FCC. I did not include the names of the suspect companies, but addressed the wider problem. This is the message I sent them. You might want to contact the FCC and your Congresspersons, yourself:

"RE:FCC allowing 3rd Party Billings Allows Fraudulent/Unethical Practices By Others

After being slammed by a dishonest company, it has come to my attention that third party billing practices by telecommunications leaves consumers open to unethical and fraudulent attacks. Because there is
no consumer approval process by the phone companies themselves, any inadvertant word to a telemarketer can result in a fraudulent charge. This practice is condoned by the FCC by virtue of their having approved the use of third party billing on telephone bills. I have contacted the California PUC, but I believe this problem is nationwide. After researching several consumer websites, I have found many complaints about both the third party billing services and the companies using them. I would ask you to look into this problem and see if anything can be done about it. Perhaps the requirement of a form authorizing the charge, to be signed and returned to the phone company before billing, could be added to the FCC's rule. This would be a simple way to solve the problem of fraud and still allow honest businesses to use third party billing."
