Vartec Telecom Ripoff pressure sales seems shady Dallas Fullerton California

Hi,

i got a call from Vartec from a guy named Kevin telling me that he wanted to offer me an internship. first you shadow a senior executive for two weeks and then you learn about managerial and communications stuff. He wasn't very clear on the job description but he said I would be making 200-400 dollars a week for only 5-10 hours/wk. Being a student, this is great money. i asked him how he got my number and he said it was through my college's career center. anyway, we talked for over 30 min on the phone, mostly him asking me questions about myself. Then he wanted me to schedule an interview for the very next day. i told him that was impossible, he said how bout the day after tomorrow?

at this point, i told him i wanted to get back to him and think about it but he kept saying if i didn't take this up, i might lose my opportunity. So i set an appointment and he said another person would call me the next day to confirm.

by the way, he also wanted to do the interview in a Starbucks because apparently it relives the tension and nervousness due to the change of atmosphere.. sounds shady to me..

after doing some asking around, i realized maybe this wasn't a good company to work with. another person called me back, and i told him i wanted to cancel the interview. first he asks me why, and i tell him i'm too busy with school and etc. so i persist in trying to cancel the interview but then he tells me that he cant cancel the interview.. he doesnt have the power to.. (what?! can't cancel it??)

he then says he'll give my number to a senior executive who can "take care of it for me"... so i wait for another 3 hours, get a call from the senior executive who says "i'm calling to confirm your appointment tomorrow".. i tell him that i want to cancel it and i go through the same "why are u cancelling" and then in the end, "i'm sorry, once you set an interview, you can't cancel it".. this is unheardof and at this point i'm getting angry. then he THREATENS me by saying that if i try to cancel this interview it will go on my employment record. what BULL.. i was being courteous enough to call and cancel the interview rather than just not show up and now he's trying to pressure me into going? no way..

i don't like the feeling i got from the company, and refusing to cancel an interview is just plain weird.. please be careful if u ever get called by vartec!
