Waffle House (Southeast Waffle) Cover Up Job Vestavia Hills Alabama

Wanna hear about a GREAT Cover-Up job? I'll tell ya a good one. I am a former Waffle House cook. I was there the night this "never actually happened this way".

On New Years morning (around 4 am)2003, we had a double stabbing in our parking area that ended up in our restaurant. Two young black men were assaulted in the parking lot and were fatally stabbed.
There was a young woman who witnessed the assault and came inside to get help. She was trying to be polite saying "Excuse me" to any and all waitstaff that passed her by. After about 8 or 9 attempts, I heard her and turned from the grill to see if I could help her.

At this point, she says loud enough for everyone to hear "You just had 2 guys stabbed in your parking lot." With no other choice and the two young men bleeding to death (litterally) in the vestibule, we evacuated the restaurant through the back door.

We called 911 and were only to hear "What, In Vestavia?" from the operator. Granted this area has a low crime rate but, that was rude and unheard of. Three fire trucks, two rescue vans and 3 ambulances responded. The police had the parking lot blocked off. One boy died inside the restaurant (medics told us he recovered outside the front door).

After the ambulances took the guys away and we were closed down, local news (ABC33/40) pulled up. Police told them that nothing had happened, "Just a fight".
Well, to make a long story short(er)...
We were told by medics, fire department and Health Department that we were to remain closed for business until the Health Dept sent in a "Decontamination Crew" to clean up.

We (employees) were made to clean the mess up ourselves and open for business at 7 am on orders from Johnny Fortner (former District Manager) and Drew Rodgers(Regional Manager) Thus far (5/30/03) NO decontamination crew has been into that restaurant....WHAT ARE YOU EATING???
