I came home to check on my elderly mother because she had been stranded by the recent ice storm and we needed to go to our friendly neighborhood pharmacy --that had always been there while I was growing up -- and she needed to get her new prescriptions filled. She has to take a diuretic which is medication designed to get rid of excess bodily fluids that the heart has trouble pumping. Mother has diabetes and the heart trouble. Her doctor is always trying to modify her medications so that she will be with us longer.

We got to Walgreen's and mother had to use the restroom because of the medication that she takes so she went ahead of me and I came out with a cashed paycheck to get her medicine and a few other things because this Walgreen's has traditionally had a lot of nice merchandise at reasonable prices.

Before I could park my truck, my elderly mother is staggering out of the store, almost in tears. Not only had the employees NOT given her the code to access the restroom but she had been accused of being a homeless, illegal Mexican alien who just wanted a place to shoplift.

THE REASON SHE HAD TO GO IN THE RESTROOM WAS BECAUSE OF MEDICATION THAT SHE TAKES TO DRAIN THe EXCESS FLUID FORM HER HEART AND CIRCULATORY SYSTEM!

BUT SHE WON'T BE BUYING IT AT THIS STORE!

My mother's family was settled in Texas when it was still a part of Mexico prior 1840! She was BORN in the United States of America and SPEAKS PERFECT ENGLISH! SHE IS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN WHO HAS LIVED HERE ALL OF HER LIFE!

And SO DO I!

As I helped my mother into my truck, I was tempted to go inside and wave the currency from my cashed paycheck in the face of the employees who had insulted my mother but decided against it.

I am not even going to bother to sue these stupid people but I DO think they ripped my mother off by stereotyping and insulting her.

My Complaint was Resolved - NO MORE RUDE PEOPLE

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 12, 2009

The last time I was in Walgreen's, the people from the manager of the store, to the assistants and the sales clerks could not have been nicer!

They were courteous, polite and helpful and I had a terrific shopping experience!

I understand that a district manager or another higher-up may have perused the Rip Off Report and PROMPT ACTION was taken, like, maybe a corporate security person was sent in undercover and that was THE END of the rude people!

THANK YOU WALGREENS FOR MAKING THINGS BETTER FOR SENIOR CITIZENS!

The Guys Who Did This were FIRED!

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 05, 2008

I don't live in Austin anymore but when I came back into the old neighborhood, I decided to go back to t his Walgreens and see if the same prejudiced people were still working there.

They were long gone and the people who were there were very nice to me even though they were short-staffed.

Seems the people who harrassed my mother were FIRED for STEALING MERCHANDISE....Oh well.

Retail jobs don't pay very well and there is a high turn-over it seems.

You don't like the bad guys picking on your family members, wait a minute, they will eventually be GONE.

And GOOD RIDDANCE!

We have not encountered that problem in any of the other Walgreens stores here since then. They are building a new Walgreens in the Capital Plaza Mall and I am looking forward to patronizing it -- me and the ENTIRE family including my MOTHER!

Your refusal to accept a cash refund does not constitute a rip off in any way

AUTHOR: Shawangunk - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 08, 2007

1- You claim that your CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE was shorted by 50% -- but don't bother to mention it until AFTER you return home. One would think that such a significant shortage would be noticed immediately, while still standing at the pharmacy counter -- especially if they present you with a physical bottle that is half the size that it normally is. Once you go home with the CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE and then return to the pharmacy to report your "shortage," how is the pharmacist supposed to know what REALLY happened? You could have pocketed half the pills and then demanded more - oldest trick in the book when it comes to these drugs; fortunately, pharmacists are well aware of this and do not act on such claims.

2- When the store generously offered you a refund (basically to give you your medication for FREE), you refused because you thought they would accuse you of "holding them up and stealing the cash"??? Huh?

The bottom line is you were NOT ripped off. Your story is that the store shorted you on some medication, and although the store does not agree, they still attempted to make things right with a cash refund. YOUR REFUSAL TO ACCEPT THE REFUND DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A RIP OFF.

Welcome to The New World

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 07, 2007

ALL these ceo's understand is the bottom line. As soon as they take over, the "run off" most or all, the old time employees and hire the youngest, cheapest "kids" who are willing to work for the peanuts, that they are willing to "shell" out. Experience and knowledge count for nothing.

How about that moron, who ran home depot into the ground and left with something like a $20 million buy out. Read where they're gonna hire 3000+ new employees. The sad part is, hiring them is like A HALF PERCENT of their payroll budget. Talk about a bandaid.

Or circut city, who's gonna lay off 3000+ employees making $10 an hour, then 10 weeks later, hire them back at $7.50 per hour. They can reapply for their old jobs back at 25% less then what they were making before. Take it or leave it.

Horrible Walgreens Experience too...

AUTHOR: Shannon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 06, 2007

Not only are the minority customers treated like dog poo, but so are the white ones. I'm about as white as they come and live in a decent neighborhood. I used to go to the Walgreens in Cedar Park (Lakline and 1431), but I will not go near the place, nor any other Walgreens on the planet, ever again.

Several months ago I noticed that my daughter's Focalin prescription seemed to be short. I counted the pills and it appeared that I was originally given only half the order (30 instead of 60 pills). I called and spoke to the pharmacist on duty. She told me that their procedures will 'infallible' and that I was wrong and even implied that I had sold the pills on the street (Focalin is a controlled substance).

Exasperated, I had my husband talk to her. She told him that this had to be impossible and that one time I had supposedly 'threatened' the store employees with a gun. She also suggested that perhaps I was a bit 'off' due to my anti-depression medication. (A MAJOR violation of HIPPA - it is against the law to discuss medical information like that - I'm still contemplating having the gal's license taken away for that.)

Long story short, I was correct. In fact, the bottle they put the original prescription into could not fit 60 pills - ever! So much for 'infallible.' Also that little diddy about the gun was a bit falsified - the police had no idea what I was talking about when I called them to inquire. Now, had I actually done this, I can't see why would they have continued to do business with me and certainly the police would have investigated considering this would be a felony.

The local store did send a couple of half-hearted letters of apology from the pharmicist (who had the gall to insist that she was trying to 'help' - help what?) and the store manager. They also sent $40 in gift cards to refund the co-pay. (They wanted to give me cash when I went to the store to get my prescription but I declined as I was afraid that they'd make up a story that I had held them up or stolen the cash.)

This Rip-Off is What You Can Expect from Yuppie CEOs

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 06, 2007

I suspected something like that was going on.

For a pharmacy to be in a predominantly lower socioeconomic neighborhood with ethnic groups and THEN they insult the older ethnic group people. well, my mother has been there a lon gtime and everyone knows her there and has respect for her, Vietnamese, African Americans, other Hispanic Americans, other Asian Americans, Native Americans. we are all AMERICANS in our neighborhood of different ethnicities but still AMERICANS.

They should hire people who understand our culture and at least KNOW the people in the neighborhood, the way they used to do before these YUPPIE CEOs from who knows where took over!

You are sure right about corporations grinding people up and disrespecting them. As a OTR trucker I make more in a week than the creeps who insulted my mother do in half a year. maybe even more still. I make up there with the pharmacist especially because they pay low here in Texas.

I am glad you found another job that appreciates good employees.Walgreen's obviously doesn't place a premium on compassionate, business-smart, courteous employees in AUSTIN,TEXAS!

Walgreens used to be a great store but because they treat their people so bad here in Texas AUSTIN; to be specific, the employees usually treat the customers like (expletive deleted) and that stuff tends to roll downhill.

Unhappy customers go elsewhere.

Unhappy customers will cost a store money.

THEN, the stupid yuppies will care.

But I won't.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Start telling everyone else

AUTHOR: Daniel - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 05, 2007

I knew that something like this was going to occur, and do not even think about writing to the company president.

President, Chairman of the Board and those in Deerfield, Illinois do not care about the customers, employees or anyone. The only thing they care about is the money.

Start telling people about your experience. Word of mouth is the only way this company is going down.

I worked for this company they promoted bad employees, decided protecting $100K worth of cosmetics is better than serving 1 person in the photo lab, managers using racial slurs, and when I decided to finally speak out, I GOT FIRED.

WELL SCREW THEM. Because I ended up at a company that treats people great and the store is trying to find my replacement (almost 2 years since I left) with NO SUCCESS!

If nothing else, you at least vented your complaint and, yes, simply don't patronize their stores. It may have been one idiot peeon employee getting a rush from bullying someone.
