On May 5th I had purchased an oil change and a coolant flush for my truck. I went to a nationwide chain to have this done as I do as scheduled. The purchase came out to $143.62 and they finished pretty quick. Unknown to me the company was in the middle of changing ownership and computer systems. After we put all my information into the new system I had given them my Walmart Money Card to pay my bill. When the card was processed the system came up with an unknown error. We had run my card 3 more times with the same error occurring each time. I had sat back down and waited while they called their tech support for help on the issue. While sitting there I had texted my card issuer to check my balance. Low and behold I saw that I had been charged a total of 4 times for $143.62 each for a grand total $574.48. I alerted the tech and the manager to what had happened and they immediately started calling their tech support about the issue. I am a very very patient person and they had assured me that the charges had been reversed during their call to their tech support. They in turn gave me the whole oil change and coolant flush for free because of the inconvince and their system failure. I was very pleased they did that for me and went home.

I logged into my Walmart Money Card account to look at the transactions the had taken place that morning and there it was, 4 charges for the oil and coolant change. This charge had come up on my account almost immediately but I did not see the reversal transactions. Concerned, I called the Walmart Money Card customer service number to see what was going on. Guess who I talked too? It was Achmed from India and he could barely speak the English language. I could barely understand what he was saying but managed to make out that for a reversal of funds it would take 24 hours to process and show on my transaction history. Patiently I waited the 24 hours and checked my account the next day. No reversal of transaction had taken place. Seeing how I was leaving to go camping over the weekend I decided to just wait and check it when I got back. Well when I returned home on Monday the 12th and checked my account there were no transactions reversing the charges.

I called the oil change company and the manager made another call to their customer service personnel. The manager knew how concerned I was about the mistake and placed the phone on conference call so I could hear the customer service person tell us both that the reversal had taken place within an hour of when the first charge was made. I still do not understand their train of thought about the times of the purchase and the reversal. According to their records and my transaction dates they have the purchase of services made on was the 8th which was really on the 6th and the reversal on the 12th which was really on the 13th. All transactions should be recorded as the day the money is unavailable to me through to the day the money is made available to me. Banks and credit card/debit card issuers should be held accountable for this because we as consumers are held accountable and charged if funds are not available. I really didn't noticed how many loopholes the banks use against us just to hold our money longer and charge us fines for lack of funds.

This should never happen anyways because it's a prepaid card and it would and should be like they are holding our cash in hand. I didn't have any concerns about them I was more worried about the card issuer Green Dot/Walmart Money Card then the oil change company. It is just ridiculous that they had held onto my money for a week when it had been reversed as quick as it the error was made. Green Dot/Walmart Money Card in my opinion was holding that money so they could combine it with a much more larger amount of cash so they could make interest off of it, the longer they held it the more they made. I am a single father with a 15 year old boy and this money was to be used for groceries for the two of us. I spend $400 to $550 a month for our groceries and cannot afford to have my money taken away from me and held for an undisclosed amount of time. I actually had to borrow money from my mom to get some food to last us until I received my money back. If I were Walmart I would not want my name to be associated with them and their business practices. WALMART WAKE UP!!!! you need to review your business practices. You may want to give Green Dot/Walmart Money Card another look and dig into the way they do business. I have my social security check direct deposited into this account and I'm not sure but I really do think that because it's a federal check they may have violated a federal law or 2 by holding these funds for so long. If anyone, like a lawyer, is reading this please feel free to email me back and let me know. I'm really curious to see if I will suffer any repercussions from this complaint or not. I guess time will tell and I'm keeping my fingers crossed lol. Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations Ripoff Report. You provide a valuable service to all those who get ripped off.
