Webster Property Services, Late, misled Southern Maine

I found an ad for an apartment in South Portland, ME that was listed by this property management company. I contacted them on a Monday, and we set up an appointment for 9:00 AM that Friday morning. I later emailed her expressing a lot of interest in the apartment, and asked if we could see if sooner, if possible. She said that she couldn't show it any other time. That was fine; I was okay waiting if I had to.

Fastforward to that Friday. Me and my roommates showed up at the apartment at about 8:57 AM. We saw a lady waiting on the steps and thought it was Amber (the individual I had been conversing with). We quickly realized it was not, and was most likely the occupant of the apartment we were going to be seeing. That lady left quickly, and my roommates and I were left waiting in the parking lot, alone.

Time passed. I figured it could be traffic due to construction after five. After ten minutes, I was checking house numbers and checking the online ad to make sure I had the right number. After fifteen minutes, I called the company, and was greeted only by the answering machine. I left a message saying my name, that we had an appointment at nine and no one was there, and we were wondering where they were. I left a callback number, and hung up. My roommates and I decided to wait another five minutes, thinking that perhaps no one being at the office meant they were on their way. At 9:20, we finally left, with no answer from the company.

Around an hour later, I got a call back from Amber. To be fair, she did apologize profusely, but that didn't make up for us wasting thirty minutes of our day, as well as one roommate losing time at work (between the waiting time and travel, he lost about two hours). She offered to show us the apartment the next week. We set up a tentative time of 1:30 PM the following Monday. She said that she would have to check with the tenant to see if they would be gone then, and that it might take a few days, but she would call me back to confirm. Not even three hours later, I got a voicemail from Amber, stating that the apartment had been rented, so there was no need to show us the apartment. She apologized again, and hung up.

Not only did she mess up and completely FORGET the appointment that we had with her for almost a week, but she clearly misled me into thinking this apartment was still available when she called back. I would have respected her if she had called, apologized, and said that there was a prospective tenant applying, so we might not get the chance to see it (we all make mistakes). The fact that they had accepted someone in less than three hours from when she called me means she obviously knew there was an applicant already, and just said whatever she thought would pacify me.

It was rude, plain and simple. This place clearly doesn't have their act together if they can't keep their appointments straight, and Amber, though she seemed nice when I talked to her, is clearly more interested in placating people than in telling them the truth.
