WePay has a nice clean interface and a relatively easy enrollment process. Problem is, you can't get your money out--kind of a big problem for a cash flow business, let alone a individual user who simply wants to get access to his/her money.

We tested the system with two payments from one of our clients. The first payment was sent to our bank without a problem. The second, was for roughly $675. We requested to withdraw the full amount. WePay transferred $300. When I wrote to complain, Customer Service explained they needed to hold some money in case of charge backs or other fees until we "built up trust" I complained again that this was random, inconsistent, and untenable in terms of cash flow. They responded that they would release $150 4 days later, and the rest of the balance 7 days later. That means the final payment they would make to us on $675 would be made in three separate payments with the final "installment" coming a full 9 days after the original withdrawal request, and the money meant to arrive in our account a full 12 days after the request.

Apparently, not an anomaly. They didn't say "oops, system error!" They referred me to their Terms and Conditions where I had agreed to their power to decide when and in what amount to freeze in my account. This is seriously their business model. Too bad, it would be nice to see them create a real alternative to PayPal.

Common problems amongst all companies

This is a common practice among almost all financial institutions. You have little recourse. There is no alternative to PayPal. They all have risk measures in place and care about protecting themselves.
