I believe West Community Credit Union is purposefully using excessive deposit holds, and / or selectively holding deposits in order to collect overdraft fees.

I have noticed on many occasions that when my account balances were at the lower end of the spectrum, significant hold times are placed on my deposits (local checks). When my balances are high, little to no hold time is applied to deposits.

I would like to collect more information and present it to the Missouri Attorney General for further investigation. Please share your story if this has happened to you.

I will not make reccomendations like that...

POSTED: Thursday, October 01, 2009

Too many banks and credit unions recently are changing polices at will..so I don't want to recommend one..then the customer gets ripped off and blames me for the suggestion.

What I did now that I understand what is really going on...is with the credit union I use..and the bank.I sat down and asked specific questions regarding how they will protect my money..and their specific policies. My current bank told me they do not re-sequence anything..every transaction is posted and processed in the order they come in. I just got the debit card in the mail and will report any suspicious activity. As well..no where in the T&C can I find any documentation stating they re-sequence anything. If they do this on my statements..I will gladly report here what they did..and the name of the banks. I will give a hint though..it is a major large bank and recently took over another large bank.

My credit union allows one courtesy overdraft per month totally free of charge, any additional are 12 dollars each..not 35 or 39 dollars..They instantly reimburse ANY ATM fees, and my direct deposit funds are available almost a FULL day sooner then Wachovia allowed. I also notice deposits clear much faster then my old bank ever did..and with some consistency. IF they do anything deceptive down the road to cause fees..it will be posted here.

All anyone has to do is a little research..ask people..and before giving any financial institution a dime..ask questions and get things in writing..or use extreme caution until they prove trustworthy.

This particular report stated....

"I have noticed on many occasions that when my account balances were at the lower end of the spectrum, significant hold times are placed on my deposits (local checks). When my balances are high, little to no hold time is applied to deposits.

Something does not smell right here..but is typically expected behavior from a bank..not a good Credit union. So what this poster needs to do is take a copy of this report..and some copies of the statement verifying what this credit union did..and show it to the next credit union and make sure they do not do this as well before enrolling.

Please help out the OP and name a few banks and credit unions who do not place holds on deposits or resequence transactions.

Just like all banks are NOT the same..neither are all credit unions. I am sure a few have caught on to some of the banks tactics to encourage OD fees, and are following suit.

Get out of this credit union, run..do not walk..there are so many out there that are fair and have not yet resorted to deception and manipulations with intent to rip off good honest customers.

A credit union did this?

Wow! Some people who post here would have us believe that credit unions never do things like this...

Just stay within your available balance and never authorize transactions unless you have funds fully available in your account to cover them.

I thought that Credit Unions were supposed to be all for the consumer and they are not like the "evil" banks.  At least thats what several people would have you believe so this is a real shock.

But seriously, can you please provide some details as to why you believe they are doing this to you purposefully.

This would be items such as when you make the deposit(day and time), how you make the deposit(ATM or Teller), and the type of deposit(cash, check....), and yes because checks over a certain amount can be subject to holds the amount of the deposit.
