I am a makeup artist and hair stylist. I was hired to work the West Modeling and Talent Convention held August 4-7, 2005. I also was asked to gather a crew of 5 stylists to work Saturday and Sunday. I provided Dana with 5 stylists on Saturday and 5 on Sunday. The rate of pay being $200.00 per day. Several of the stylist worked both days.
I received an e-mail a week and a half after the event requesting all the stylists to fax a billing statement to WMTC even though we had already completed forms at the event. We all did this immediately.
Four weeks and no paychecks later, I managed to get Dana West on the phone. She said there was a problem with a check that had been paid to them by a school that had participated in the convention. I have never met this woman, she said to me and I quote "what am I supposed to do, pull the money out of my a*s?" She went on and on about her husband being ready to divorce her,her receptionist quit because of all the phone calls requesting payment for services rendered, etc. I could not believe how unprofessional Dana West was. And it just gets better!
The checks BOUNCED!!!!! Yes Dana West Modeling and Talent Convention/Agency issued checks on an account that did not have the funds to cover the checks!!! Writing BAD CHECKS is against the law!!!
One of the artists had her lawyer call Dana. Dana asked him to fax over a copy of the return advice which indicates charges incurred and a copy of the nsf check and that she would then issue a certified check in the proper amount. Well it's been over 2 weeks since we did that!! Still no payment.
I go to the local branch of her bank twice a week to see if the NSF paycheck she issued me is good. Each time I go in the teller tells me there are not enough funds in the account to cover the $200.00 check.
We all worked very hard at this event, which is really beside the point!! You get hired for a job, you get paid for the job.
It's bad bad business issuing checks that are NOT GOOD!!!

In alot of states, the person getting the bad check is entitled to 3 times the face value of the bad check when prosecuted. You could be in for some real money from this, if the writer doesn't make good on it/them right away.

Carol,
Take the bad checks to the prosecuting attorney's
office of the county in which the checks were
received. (if they were mailed, then your county)
We got some bad payroll checks taken care of this
way. The P.A. office will have you fill out a
form for each bad check and if over a certain
amount they can be considered felony offenses.

WMTC ISSUES NSF CHECKS!!!!

In response to Dana West rebuttal to my Rip Off report.
The fifth paragraph needs to be reread. It states that one of the makeup artist/stylists who was issued a BAD CHECK had her lawyer call Ms. West. That stylist is Chanel, and she faxed over the paperwork the week her lawyer spoke to Dana West.
I also faxed the return advice from my bank with the nsf check to the WMTC ofice 2 WEEKS ago.
If WMTC has a policy to take care of its staff and vendors why would they issue paychecks that do not have the funds to cover them??? It is against the law to issue checks with nonsufficient funds.
I followed through when I got together a makeup and hair crew for the WMTC event at the request of Al Jones, Dana West and Micheller. I and the other stylists followed through when we reported for work at 5:00 am and worked through the days we were hired to. We followed through when we filled out the tax forms, we followed through when we submitted invoices for services rendered, and we have FOLLOWED THROUGH faxing copies of our Return Advices with the BAD CHECKS that we received from our banks, to the WMTC office.
Dana West and her company has not FOLLOWED THROUGH with payment for services rendered.
So on behalf of Maria, Chanel, Melissa and myself we will continue to follow through until we are paid the wages we earned and are reimbursed for the bank fees we incurred due to being paid by Dana West and her company with NSF CHECKS!

Our Accountant responded that he/she should please send any documentation regarding this incident via fax. The fax WAS NEVER received. As a matter of fact, her lawyer stated that he would not send this information to WMTC. WMTC makes it a policy to take care of its staff and vendors and this appears to be someone not following through with what was requested.
