If you are planning airline travel, STAY AWAY from Westchester County Airport (AKA White Plains Airport or "HPN") due to their outrageous parking fees.  They will charge you $26/day to park at the airport and there are NO LONG TERM PARKING AREAS.  I just took a one-week trip and was zonked with a $211 parking bill.  There is no advance warning unless you're suspicious of the potential fees and ask in advance.  We've been flying for many years and never in our lives ran into an airport that overcharges to this degree.  Even JFK is cheaper, and they have more airlines and more flights to more locations.  Our theory as to why they charge these outrageous fees is based in the fact that the airport is right on the New York / Connecticut state line, bordering Greenwich, Connecticut, home to many millionaires and billionaires; but the airport itself is in New York state.  So they can bilk wealthy Greenwich travelers who don't want to go all the way to New York City out of tons of money for parking, and since the airport isn't located in Greenwich, the Greenwich residents can't vote to reduce the fees.

A nice extended middle finger pointed at Connecticut residents by the Westchester County government.  Point yours back by not frequenting their ripoff airport.

On-Airport Parking is Not Same as Long-Term

AUTHOR: Guy Smiley - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 05, 2011

Westchester County Airport (HPN) offers on-airport parking. The on-airport parking is around $26.00 max per day, which is less than equivalent parking at other NYC airports including JFK and LGA. It's less than I've paid elsewhere around the country as well (I travel every two weeks for past 10 years).

On-airport parking is sometimes called "daily parking" to distinguish it from long-term parking found at most other larger airports. HPN does not offer long-term parking because it is a relatively small county airport.

HPN is not overcharging and you should be a more thoughtful consumer. Plan ahead and take a cheap taxi. No conspiracy theories required.
