Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

I excepted a money order as payment for work rendered on a pc job. I deposited the money order to have it bounce. I called western union to inquire. They said it had depreciated. The $300.00 dollar money order was now worth $293.50. That I would need to file paper work that they would mail to me in the next 3 to 5 days business days.. I must fill it out and get it notarized and mail it back in. Well thats going to take 2 weeks according to western union and additional 6 to 8 weeks before I recieve my $293.50.

Why would it take a week to mail paper work on an old money order and another 6 to 8 weeks to get paid. Thats 2 plus months to collect money thats owed to myself from Western Union.  I don't get 2 plus months to pay for a money order when i purchase one. Then why 2 plus months to collect on one.  So that your company can make the money in interest off your accounts at my expense?  This is bad business in my opinion.

bad math

"they depreciate 0.50 cents per month"

That would be a depreciation of only 6.5 cents. The OP's money order depreciated $6.50.

Depreciated Money Order

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (United States of America)

Apparently you kept the money order for a year and a month, it probably is important to read the terms and conditions written on the actual money order, they depreciate 0.50 cents per month from the date of purchase if they're not presented for payment within the first year.

Now that you kept the money order for a year and a month you need to wait for the postal office to delver the form that you need to fill out, which usually takes within 7 to 10 business days, as western union does not own the postal office the only option available is to send it and hope it gets to you. And it will take 6 to 8 weeks to process something you are requesting, its up to you to do it or not, its just a procedure that its offered in case you would probably like to receive the remaining funds back.

Now that you waited for a year to cash it, you could possibly wait for two months to receive it.

Stale dated?

AUTHOR: patti - (United States of America)

From your report, it sounds as though the money order may have been stale dated.  Is this the case?
