My Boyfriend and I were walking into the woodbury commons outlet mall when these guys in a van pulled up and said "want some speakers, too many came in and if we bring them back they will just get rid of them". A mall security guard even drove by and said nothing. He backed up the speakers by showing us a magizine with the image of the same speakers and we bought them for 240$.

Tipoff

"Even on the box was printed retail value around $2000.00"

And that is the dead giveaway that the deal is a scam.   Most people don't think about it (because they're too busy being sucked in), but how many legitimate products like speakers or surround systems have a retail price prominently displayed on the box.   Answer : None.   The price is only there to reinforce the scam.

The only thing your report states is that you purchased some speakers from the back of a van at a mall for $240.00. So you are not really explaining the ripoff..

But with that said..this is one of the oldest scams ever..and my ex roommate had it happen to him about a year ago.

They always give the same c**k and bull story about how they didn't need them all for a job..or their boss ordered too many..always something similar to that.

Now I have heard over the years and years and years of this scam that either the speakers were in the box..but they ended up being very cheap..and worth much less then the victim paid..or the box was filled with rocks or sand to feel heavy.

Which one happened to you?

With my room mate it was actually an entire surround sound system. Even on the box was printed retail value around $2000.00, I could have gotten him the same system for under 100 dollars. I believe he paid around 300 dollars for it.

I won't insult you for doing this since so many seem to fall for it..but really..you should know better then to buy anything off the back of a truck in a parking lot. If they really had anything of value they would have more legitimate means to unload it..not in the street like that.
