Dear Writers Market,
I am writing this letter to inform you that more than forty percent of the literary agents in your book are frauds. For the past three months, my letters have been coming back. The information that you have for literary agents is wrong. I have sent out fifty submission letters and twenty have come back to me. The USPS has put return to sender on them. This was very disappointing, so I started looking on line for the correct address. The address in the writers market books and the internet do not match. It is not just the addresses that do not match but the people who are claiming to be literary agents, are individuals who have put up web sites that look like professional literary web sites. Looking into this further, I have contacted others who are submitting their manuscripts to these same literary agents come to find out that half of them are people who are starting their agencies out of their apartments or it is just a P.O. Box. My question to you is why the writers market is not screening your applicants more closely.
For the past ten years, I have sent out one hundred and fifty query letters. The response to my query letters in all of this time has been twenty-five. The literary agents who are applying to have their company put into your book over half of them are lying to you. This is not right. So many of us have wasted so much time and money on stamps, looking for our break into TV and movies. It is sad that so many people can fill out an application. Fill out the right forms, register their company as a business, and sell false hopes to people.
A suggestion for your company. In the future, can you make your application a longer process for those who are Appling to have their company put into your book? Ask them to send in their clients names that they are representing and the movies that they have sold. There must be a way for you to look on line to fact check their claims. Check with the copyright office and the trademark office. More and more people are starting up literary agencies every day and they are not even legitimate. The literary agencies that are legitimate they are not taking any new clients at this time. They are stating in their comments that you have to be referred by someone. I do understand that everyone must pay their dues in the show business world and jump through hoops. It is sad that a company like the writers market is not doing more to insure that more people are given the opportunities to accomplish their dreams.
The only thing I am asking for is that the information in your book be correct. The rest is up to the person who is trying to make their dreams come true.
Thank you
Anthony Phillips
