I have previously ordered airline tickets through Yahoo travel and have always been able to use them as planned. However, last December, due to a medical problem encountered by my wife potentially requiring surgery, I was unable to travel on the days the airline tickets were purchased for.

The confirmation I received clearly identified the process to change the tickets, but when I called to discuss my situation I was told by the Yahoo Travel Representative the tickets were "use or lose" NO EXCEPTIONS!!! I soon discovered the phone number was located somewhere in India and the people I spoke to were at best evasive when I asked to speak to their supervisors. They also refused to give me a phone number in the USA where I could speak to someone stateside about my problem.

I was facing a loss of almost $700, and needless to say I was very upset. I feel that Yahoo Travel Travelocity showed at best questionable business ethics and zero compassion for a medical situation. If their policy is "use or lose" it should be CLEARLY stated that way prior to finalizing the reservation. To state "no changes" in a small non-descript paragraph and not describe the real consequences of the loss of the total ticket price is unethical and misleading. Especially when the confirmation gives you instructions on how to change the reservations.

Fortunately for me, I purchased the tickets for travel on an ethical airline, Aeromexico. Although I didn't get a full refund, I at least got about 2/3's of it and Yahoo walked away with the remainder. Aeromexico understood my situation and was willing to do their part in treating me fairly.

I feel that Yahoo Travel misleads their potential ticket customers and I think one should be very careful before using Yahoo Travel/Travelocity for purchsing any travel arrangements.

The most disappointing thing to me was my high regard for the Yahoo organization fell apart. I was a loyal user of their services. It is also interesting that when I checked the Aeromexico site for rescheduling the planned trip, I found their ticket prices just slightly higher than the ones I purchased through Yahoo Travel/ Travelocity.
