I too felt Darby/YES communities was targetting me

AUTHOR: svillemomof4 - ()

POSTED: Monday, May 05, 2014

I lived in Ryefield for about two years from 2006-2008. I bought a foreclosed home for next to nothing and moved in after the manager gave me the run around.

First off, before buying the trailer, I called the Darby office and asked if back lot rent would be required and was told no, that was not my responsibility. I was also told by a lawyer that since Darby did not file a lean against the home they could not hold anyone responsible, they would have to go after the previous tenant for that money. Of course I didn't get that information until years later so I ended up paying almost $1000 in back rent.

I moved in and found out within a few months that things were not what they seemed. They told me they would evict me if I didn't put siding on my shed, a shed that was there well before I bought the place. They said I had to put a new deck up because mine didn't have rails even though it had been there. They made me replace the skirting for my trailer, all in all over $3500 within 6 months. I asked before I moved in if anything needed to be brought up to code and they said no. What is really funny is that she, the manager, was trying to tell me I was in violation of the county building codes, ha, my father has built homes for over 40 years and he said she was full of it!

After living there for 6 months I had become really friendly with my neighboors only to find out that the manager would try and gossip with them to find out things about me! Come to find out she had been biding on my trailer and I won the bid so she had hard feelings.

I bought a house and was going to rent my trailer out after another 18 months but was told I could not. So I said ok, I will sell it. When I sold it I got a check and gave the guy the title and moved. He went to the office to put it in his name and they gave him a hard time. This guy owns his own company and wanted to pay several months up front. He told them he would make it a rental and wouldn't you know, two days before I sold they changed their policy to allow it. When I went to get my deposit back they told me I couldn't have it because I was required to give 30 days notice. I can't believe that! It wasn't like I left the lot empty, it was switched over to another and rent had all been paid! I finally gave up because $250 wasn't worth it!

Move out of that place if you can, they will attack you forever. File a harrassment charge if you don't mind getting into the legal side of things. My life became so much better when I bought my new house, I probably would've gone crazy had I stayed much longer! They say they are there for you and they want a nice place for you to live which is all well and good but then they pick and choose who they enforce what with. I documented everything and had pictures that I had been documenting for over a year of other homes that had the same "issues" mine did and were never corrected. I sent a package to Darby before I moved and guess what, no response. They don't care.

YES! Communities is proud to offer Equal Opportunity Housing. We have the same set of standards for every resident throughout all of our 181 communities across 17 states. We do have rules and regulations that allow our communities to stay clean, intact and an enjoyable place for many to be proud to call their home. It is unfortunate that this resident was unhappy with our rules and regulations and she has since vacated our community.
