I answered what looked to be a legitimate offering on the Hotjobs Yahoo job board recently. The position listed a teaching opportunity at a local private school. The name of the school was not disclosed. I thought well, that's not too strange. So, I pursued this, was brought to another site to create a login. I noticed at the bottom of the page an "opt out" option to not receive further emails. So, I did just that. The following day, I received an email stating that my information looked good and they needed addtional questions answered to send to the employer. They asked for 3 references.

I felt uncomfortable about this so early in the process so, I did not put the personal phone numbers of these people and used emails that I knew they did not use frequently. However, since providing this information, for some reason I have been unable to access Google either through a wireless or ethernet connection nor have I been able to get on my college website that I am supposed to be taking an on line course with.

My daughter, who has a gmail account, Google, (which I listed her email address), also has not been able to get on Google or access any of her emails, (which is extremely important for her to do). My concern is that this fraudulent company, "Career Network, Inc" is somehow blocking this access and those emails that I listed. My other concern is that they will try to sign me up for services etc. that I'm not signing up for. AND, they have the information from my resume.

AUTHOR: Career Network - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 26, 2008

I'm sorry that you feel our recruitment practices are not meeting your needs. I'm sure this is only due to a misunderstanding of us and our business. Allow me to clear up any confusion by explaining who we are and what it is we exactly do.

Career Network is a new job board that is free to use by both job seekers and employers. Currently, there are thousands of jobs throughout the country available for application on our network of employment sites. We actively market those opportunities to individuals who have previously expressed interest in receiving employment offers. This works as a benefit for our corporate clients as we actively reach hundreds of potential applicants who had not previously been introduced to the opportunity through traditional job ads.

To keep our services free to both job seekers and employers we do offer advertising verticals on the site. However they are completely voluntary and do not in any way affect job seekers' consideration for the listed employment opportunities. We act only as an intermediary between the applicants and the hiring companies, and do not interfere with the delivery of submitted resumes for any reason. To do so would jeopardize our relationships not only with our corporate clients but our advertising partners as well.

Once those resumes are delivered, the rest of the process is solely in the hand of the employer. The decision to hire, not hire, contact, etc. is theirs alone. If they receive a large amount of resumes, they may require extra time to respond to the applicants who did not make the cut. From personal experience, I have received that letter as long as six months after I applied for a position.

The references option is a service we have extended to employers as a free benefit. At first, it was an add-on employers could choose, but now that so many have requested it the service has just about become standard. Again, this information is added to your resume file that we forward to the employer.

Furthermore, let me assure you that nothing will be done with your personal information that you do not expressly authorize. Foremost, since you are applying for a position, your resume will be transmitted to the employer who will then consider you for a job based solely on your skills and education. Beyond that, we will only connect you with our promotional partners if you agree to it during the application process.

As to your difficulties with your computer, I assure you that it is not due to our application process. You should run your anti-virus protection software to root out the problem, and be sure to always have it running to protect you.

I hope this clears up any confusion you may have regarding our Web site and our recruitment services. Please feel free to contact us with any further issues or suggestions at info@careernetwork.us.com.
