Business Filings Division $239, statement of information filings, letter requesting payment, looks like official letter from State of California, misleading and looks real Sacramento, California

Do NOT fall for this scam company! It is NOT a legitimate State of California agency! This company has named itself to sound official "Business Filings Division" and preys on unsuspecting businesses, especially LLC's in the within California by sending a letter threatening penalties and requesting payment of $239 "immediately" to file your "Updated LLC Statement of Information". Despite how convincing the mailer looks, it is NOT a government agency. The phone number also has a recording that is purposely vague and you can never get a live person. Instead, the greeting gives you as much info as possible to make you feel like it is legit, but you will never get a live body on the phone! Long story short, we came VERY close to sending a check, but fortunately, an Internet search confirmed our suspicions about this company and the fact that it IS NOT a Government Agency. Also, if you are still thinking it could be a real department with the State of California, read the all caps sentence in the last paragraph..."THIS PRODUCT OR SERVICE HAS NOT BEEN APPROVED OR ENDORSED BY AN GOVERNMENT AGENCY, AND THIS OFFER IS NOT BEING MADE BY AN AGENCY OF THE GOVERNMENT." Naturally (and fortunately), we did not send a check...don't fall for it!!!!
