jackie's place is a bar in irons, michigan. ordered a white russian and they charged $8.50. Ridiculous!!
When I asked about the ridiculous price the bartender said because they put kahlua supreme in the drink and it is very expensive.

I researched kahlua on the internet and there is no such thing as kahlua supreme. kahlua is kahlua.
also if they were going to charge $8.50 for a drink we should have been warned since we bought 2 of them.
Not good business!

are you old enough to drink?

I would think if you were old enough to drink you would have seen the price listed.

An $8.50 cocktail - not a bad price.

AUTHOR: Rocky - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 14, 2007

I generally pay quite a bit more for a cocktail than $8.50. It is not uncommon to pay around $12 for a good martini where I live. You are not just paying the cost of the alcoholic beverage but you are paying for atmosphere and entertainment.

If you want to pay just for the cost of the booze they put in the drink, you would have to go a grungy bar or tavern. I have been in those places, too. I get a beer for $1 and for $1.60, you can get a beer and a shot of house whiskey. No atmosphere or entertainment at that place.

Instead of posting a message on this site, you should have had your one drink, paid for it, and just left - and not go back to that bar. Posting a message for a minor incident like a high priced drink does not show class on your part at all.

Not a big deal

AUTHOR: Jeff - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 13, 2007

In Scottsdale, AZ...drinks will cost that much or more. Just avoid those places all together. Hit up dive bars and happy hours. Also, if you order whiskey and coke, rum and coke, etc...always ask for a double in a short glass. You'll most likely get what you paid for, mostly liquer with a splash of soda. The whole idea is to get stewed.

$8.50 is not that bad.

AUTHOR: Dennis Ray - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 09, 2007

Paid $14.00 for the same drink on the Big Island Hawaii. We went to the Costco in Kona, bought our own stuff and made our own drinks for most of the rest of the week. The hotel was the loser, if they were not gouging people we would have drank from their bars. I noticed a number of people on the beach and at the pool doing the same thing with beer and other beverages.

Another suggestion

AUTHOR: Shawangunk - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 09, 2007

I agree with Chip who suggested that you perhaps may have champagne tastes on a beer budget. May I suggest that next time you wish to order an alcoholic beverage, request "well liquor" when placing your order? This is the cheapest liquor in the house, and will avoid having your drink made with something more expensive.

The point is, you need to ask, either for the price of the drink before ordering it, or for it to be modified with cheap liquor if you are looking to save a buck or two. Just my two cents worth!

Champagne Tastes on a Beer Budget

AUTHOR: Chip - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 09, 2007

The ingredients that go into a white russian are vodka, kahlua and a cream. You're getting a liquor and a liqueur, and depending on what type of vodka they're pouring, $8.50 sounds about right. Kahlua Especial is higher priced.

Maybe you should stick with Coors light; should be no more than $4/bottle.

I respectfully disagree

AUTHOR: Shawangunk - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 09, 2007

I'd hardly call $8.50 for a drink an outrage. I frequently pay $7 to $9 for a drink at many establishments, including Applebee's, TGI Fridays, and Outback to name just a few. The prices are hardly ever listed on the menu, but that does not mean that you're not allowed to ask the price before ordering.

If you are on a budget, perhaps you should stick to ordering soft drinks when you go out (they are usually only $2.49 at the most) and drink your alcohol at home. You can buy a bottle of wine at Walmart or other discount stores for as little as $2.99, thus avoiding the $8.50 restaurant drinks.

Perhaps the bartender meant...

AUTHOR: Honest Sam - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 09, 2007

Perhaps the bartender meant Kahlua Especial, not supreme, which is more expensive then the classic Kahlau.

In any case if you didn't ask what the price was beforehand, it's your fault.

Rip Off drink

AUTHOR: Lorraine - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, April 08, 2007

The bar has had several people already complain on the price of this drink. Also it was a small drink not a larger size. No Kahlua supreme is out there!! The bartender lied to us to cover up the price of the drink. We didn't know the price or we wouldn't have ordered another one. The waitress apologized for not telling us the price after we ordered. It isn't the money it is bad business to charge $8.50 for a white russian.

Maybe you should have asked what the price was BEFORE ordering!

AUTHOR: Steve [Not A Lawyer] - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, April 08, 2007

Lorraine,

If I go out somewhere and am concerned about money, I ask what the price of something is BEFORE I order it.

It is very common for bars to charge $4-$6 for fancy /exotic drinks, so $8.50 is not too far out of line. What was the size of the drink? Was it a normal size or a larger size?

I did a quick search for "Kahlua Supreme" and found numerous reports. Maybe it is a new product or a special way of preparing the drink, like with Ice Cream, etc.

Maybe you should have just refused the drink and left. Problem solved.
