I sent Merchants Credit Guide a cease and desist letter which they received on Monday 7/31/2006. The letter was sent certified, return receipt requested. Unfortunately, I have never received anything in writing from them so my letter did not contain an account reference number. I also have never called them in the past.
They are ignoring the letter, as they have called twice since receiving the letter, leaving the same message, a female voice, "It is important you call Ken Hughes at 866-352-0235" My question is: Can they continue to call because the letter did not have an account number? What are my next options?

As per the exact wording of the letter you ned to send, it is a CEASE COMMUNICATION letter, not a cease and desist. The law does not give you the option to force anyone to cease and desist.
Furthermore, you must make them accountable, and send the letter by verifiable means. Send letters ONLY by certified mail, return reciept requested. Put the certified# on the letter itself, and make a copy for your records. DO NOT sign the letter as they are known for forging documents. PRINT your name only and initial it.
If that does not work, pound every fax# they have with about 150-200 copies of your letter about an hour after they close. This works every time.
