This company is taking advantage of my mother-in-law by charging her a premium for her dead husband. He has been gone for 5 years. The premium is automatically deducted from her checking account. The bank told her to contact the company. How can we get these people to stop taking health care premiums for a deceased person? Contacting them is a joke. I may as well be talking to a rock. Meanwhile, the $89.00 continues to be deducted from a dead person's wife's account.

A couple of options...

Just telling the bank to not allow the payments won't really do any good. However, you may want to consider a stop payment through your bank and filing a dispute for unauthorized transactions with the bank. Push come to shove, you can close that account and open a new one, that way the health care company won't have the numbers to take any more payments.

If you can prove that the insurance company has been notified of cancelation. Then from that point to present, can be refunded.

Tell the bank the deduction is not allowed anymore is the first step and cancel the policy.

My guess is she never told the insurance company and doesn't look at her bank statements. He has been dead for 5 years and someone just noticed she was still paying for health insurance?

How is this the insurance companies fault?
