recently attended a orientation for knight transportation in turalre, ca. on 08/10/2009 was at their terminal promptly at 0730 along with 9 other possable new employees.

what the recruiter got things going it seems to me she was coming off a little strong, she didnt the same attitude she had on the phone. kept telling me she would run a dac report even before i got there.

not only did she not run a dac report, she didnt call previous employers for a reference. even had to fill out another company application when i got there dispite the fact the one i filled out was one that i downloaded pinted and filled out by hand and faxed it to them.

so what was the need for another one? but thats not the half of it, the safety director they have is a ex deputy sherrif who's attitude is something other then what it should or probaly be. when it came my turn for a road test, the truck they were using is a 379 long nose pete.

didnt have a problem with the kind of tractor it is, just the way its made. sleeper thats wider then the cab and having the exhaust mounted right outside the door made it hard to see when using the mirror's when backing.

so when i opened the door to see where the end of the trailer was going so i wouldnt hit anything while backing it into a parking spot, my road test was failed because of it.

they used the excause i could of fallen out of the tractor because ot it. seems to me that if you still have your seat belt on, have one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the door handle, how are you gonna fall out?

spent 14 1/2 hours going there on the bus just to have them do that. and almost the same going home. seems to me they would have all their i's dotted and t's crossed on the dac reports background checks mvr report and previous employer's verified before they decided to do anything.

instead of getting someone there, and finding something they didnt like and sending them home instead of wasting the drivers time, their time and company money doing all this.

You gotta be kidding me.....

AUTHOR: Brian - (U.S.A.)

You opened the door while backing and wonder why you did not get hired? Are you for real?  Hotshots like you are pathetic excuses for drivers. If you know how to properly set up a truck, it matters not where the cab, sleeper, or exhaust are. You will have the truck properly angled to use your mirrors or simply just turn your head and look back to see your approach.

If you can't see, Get Out And Look! Isn't that what all these companies have that GOAL sticker on the mirrors for? How can anyone fault you for getting out to look? You're not testing for your CDL, you're showing a safety director that you care enough about your own safety and the safety of others to climb out and get a good look before going anywhere else. Regardless of how you try and explain how safe it is to open the door, it's not. It's unsafe and unprofessional and shows your lack of backing skills.

To prove my point, I owned a '95 Freightliner Classic with a 64" hi-rise bunk made by Able Body out of Joplin, MO. It's a carbon copy of the Pete bunks. Same style. Sitting on a 270" wheelbase.  I NEVER had to open the door unless it was to get out. And the bunk is just as wide as the one you complained about, and my jumbo 8" straight pipes were right out the door too. I, sir, know how to maneuver and use my mirrors. You obviously can't. I even had 12' wide combines on my trailer, making backing even harder. You get out and look and take your time, hotshot.

It's also routine for you to fill out another hard copy of the application for them. Irritating, but true. All you had to do was ask for a copy of the one you sent them and copy from that to the new one. Your attitude in your post seems to rival the alleged attitude the recruiter and "ex-deputy" safety man. Pray tell, what relevence was the poke at his former occupation? Just your anger that a cop cost you the job? Sorry sir, it was your poor driving skills, nothing more.

Your anger about your DAC not being run makes me wonder if you've had backing accidents on your DAC that they were dismayed to find as well. Why so freaked out about your DAC and MVR not being run before you got there? If they're both clean, who cares? If you're a bad driver, they didnt' waste time and money... you did.

A letter of apology:

To Knight Transportation and Brett Sant, VP of Safety:

I deeply regret and apologize for the terrible things I have said about Knight Transportation.  I felt wronged and decided to air my feelings in this public forum which was not only wrong but very unprofessional.

After being contacted by you Brett, I truly felt that you were very sincere in trying to fix the problems I was having.  I want to thank you for continuing working with me to rectify this situation.

Again, I sincerely apologize for any derrogatory comments I made toward Knight Transportation in any way.  I wish I could take it back but unfortunately I can't.  All I can do is say I am sorry.Sincerely,

Tony H

Consider it a blessing

Consider it a blessing that you didn't get hired.  This way you only wasted the trip to and from the orientation.  Otherwise you would have wasted weeks, months, or maybe years...if you lasted that long.

Knight has become the RED SWIFT of the trucking industry.  They operate like a joke.

As far as the Pete goes...I thought it was a requirement to open the drivers door to back up.  I have never seen anyone do it without opening the door.

They are absolutely the worst truck ever built!  You can't see anything out of the darn thing.

Their office staff is nothing but a bunch of college dropouts paid a little above minimum wage.

Take it from me...(An ex-safety director for Knight), The only people they have in the offices are dumb***** that failed at everything else in life.

So take your non-hiring in stride and move on to a better company.  Pick any..they are all better than Knight.
